    Crafts

On another thread we were talking about crafts,
I was a big crafter I. Loved anything to do with crafting
Sugar craft, Egg craft , sewing , knitting , crochet etc ,
I would try anything except card making I wasn't a fan off,

When my DD was a little girl maybe 6 ish we used to do Salt dough craft making broaches wall plaques, little animals etc ,
She loved it and I think that started her love of art and crafting .

Do any of our members craft still?
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Much about the same here Oma, I didn’t do sugar and egg craft. I did used to make cards and hand sewing or machine. I knitted for the babies and toddlers. I am afraid I haven’t done anything crafty for some time except once a month I go to a friend’s house with a few others from WI but we mainly make cards, friend has some amazing ideas.

I used to do a lot of knitting, but when the internet came along it seemed to take over.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Always an avid crafter, I’d try anything. Knotting, leatherwork, jewelry making, candle making, felting etc. as well as knitting, crochet, embroidery but my passion has always been sewing. That’s my happy place!
I still have ideas for all sorts of things but I’m not so enthusiastic nowadays, sadly my hands hurt after sewing or knitting.

I'm a dabbler! I've done a bit of various crafts, but never feel the results are worth the time and effort. I'm too impatient to spend time learning basic skills and working up ideas. There's a yawning gap between my vision of what I want to create and what I end up with!

I really enjoy painting, which I took up during the first Covid lockdown. I hadn't done any art since leaving school. I find I enjoy painting seascapes most of all, but persuade myself to try other topics from time to time. I started with acrylics, but now also use watercolour sometimes. I've enjoyed writing short stories, but just lately inspiration has been thin on the ground. And I enjoy playing my electronic piano, just for my own enjoyment.

Grauntie, I sympathise. I find my neck and shoulders ache after painting for a while. It's frustrating, isn't it.

Plant, how lovely to have a friend with such good ideas. I'm sure she inspires all of you.

Nanto, I know a lot of people knit or crochet while they watch television, but using the internet doesn't leave you with free hands, does it.

Like you Grauntie, done it all!! I have knitted so much over the years, loved knitting Aran and Iceland patterns, I do still knit but with my hands like they are I can't knit like I used to, I do still sew, not as often at the moment, mostly repairs, alterations etc, I still have plans though! I have done a lot of embroidery etc etc, also covered the sitting of a leather suite once with leather, I still have some of the leather after 40+ years. I did try crochet not long ago, trying was as far as I got.

I would love to be able to contribute to this thread!

I did crafts with my DD's, GC and in my jobs in childcare of course.

I would love to be good at crafts. I'm not careful ( kudos to those like Oma who can do all that beautiful intricate work)
              I can't knit or sew.
I bought a lot of art equipment during the pandemic but don't use it.
I loved art and pottery at school and would probably think of myself as arty, but I'm really not!

Gem, get those art materials out and just enjoy sloshing the paint about. I've watched a few tutorial on YouTube which emphasise that people try too hard, when what they really need to do is enjoy it, be spontaneous. Don't judge your art by other people's standards.

I'm trying to do this, and keep telling myself the enjoyment lies in the process not the outcome! It's hard sometimes though because we always measure ourselves/our creations by outside influences.

I would definitely say you are a creative person. xx

I liked water colours and if I didn't like what I did I just covered it in a wash and started again ,
It doesn't have to be a work of art as long as your having fun,
I'm no Artist I think I'm a crude artist or like my name sake a splasher like Jackson Pollock,

My DD is amazing artist she has a wonderful eye but very rarely picks a brush or pencil up now, such a shame a wasted talent.

It doesn't matter if your good at something you just try, as they say practice makes perfect ( unless it's me and paints 🤣)

I am thinking of trying embroidery or cross stitch again ,
I loved both but it's the threading the needles, although the eye of an embroidery needle is much bigger than a sewing needle ,
I have a very large collection of embroidery threads And Aida just sitting there waiting to be used .

This is one I embroidered many years ago, I was down in the shed the other looking for something and was surprised at how many I have down there!

Lizzie, you have reminded me that many years ago I did and enjoyed cross stitch!

I did a little baby sampler when DD3 was born, in 1988, so it must have been around that time. I did a bigger one with cats, I must dig that out!

I have made a runner for my coffee table and Cushion covers to match for Christmas with Nut cracker soldiers on ,
I still use the runner but the cushion covers are in a bag under the bed, I couldn't be bothered to change the covers this year.
I have done lots of baby stuff and framed them as gifts for family and friends ,
Some take many hours but when that last stitch goes in it feels like such an achievement 😁
