GD1 and I had our first knitting session together this morning. After trying both hands, she opted to use her right hand, which made it a bit easier, but Plant, I was very grateful for your tip about sitting behind her to help get started. It worked a treat.
We did casting on, plain (garter stitch) knitting, and casting off. I had to leave before she'd finished her dishcloth but apparently she was still knitting this afternoon. We had a good old Knit and Natter - the first time we've had chance to really chat for ages. She says she likes something to do with her hands if she's watching tv or a video, so hopefully she will be teaching me soon!
Thank you all again for your help!

Week 2 of our knitting sessions! GD1 had done a lovely job on her dishcloth. You could see how her knitting had improved - rows and rows of lovely neat garter stitch.
We decided to use the same piece to start on purl. She was fascinated to see that it didn't look that much different on one side, but quite different on the other (right) side. Her first couple of purl rows were a bit "lacey" and it was a decent size, so she cast it off.
I'd got a pattern for scrunchies - basically a short wide piece, but on thinner needles - so she's started that. It will be interesting to see how it goes. I made progress with my coaster and thanks to the help and tips from my granny friends, I've mastered the PSSO routine!
All being well, she's going to come to our house next Tuesday and stay for lunch.
