I have so many little black and white photos, but no idea who they are! Nothing written on the back. I have tracked down two of the people simply because there was a place, date and name on the back.

Enfys - I used to help people with dating photos, and I always say be sure to write who the people are on the back, preferably a date and location as well. Pencil lasts surprisingly well.

I wonder what will happen to all the photos stored on computer hard drives, CDs etc and in the Cloud.

This is so fascinating. I have my dad's side of the Family Tree that goes back yonks. My cousin's DD has researched my mum's side of the family & has promised me a CD of some of her findings. By the sound of it she has enough research to fill a garage space. I must give her a nudge.

Oma there's a paramedic called Darren Axe who featured on Helicopter Heroes, with B's brother's wife's mother. I often wonder if we're related somewhere along the line.

Like you say Oma, you never know. Jane came across as being very caring on the tv programme. Hope she'll be ok.

I had a read through my Family History file the other day. I really must get it into better order, but I find it really difficult to create a family tree. I tried an online one but made a mistake and couldn't see how to correct it, and gave up. That was on Find My Past some years ago. I didn't find it very easy to use, but probably didn't read the instructions properly. Has anybody got any suggestions, please?

Sorry. Wish I could help Daisy.

I was extremely lucky that I found out that the 2nd cousin of a fifth cousin of a trillionth cousin, (think you get the idea) had researched my dad's side of the family & had spent years drawing up the family tree. I say I was lucky as he died shortly after he gave me a copy. The record of my family history would have gone too. As in all the research etc.

I like looking at the family tree occasionally , eg. how a Christian name is passed down through the ages. Isn't it strange how family history gives us a sense of belonging.

Daisy, I have just bought a newer version of Family Tree Maker, but there are free programmes out there if you google Family Tree programmes. I’m on Ancestry but of course you have to join to create a family tree.

Enfys - many thanks - that's really useful information. I'd thought of rejoining Find My Past, but can't justify the subscription unless I'm going to spend some considerable time on it. It seems sensible to get what I've know in good order first, so a free tree program would be very useful. xx

I haven’t used one, Daisy, but might be worth investigating.

I'll let you know how I get on, Enfys. I need to tidy up my files first, though.

My friend has just told me that It is free for this weekend on Ancestry.co.uk , until Monday I believe. Worth looking at.

Enfys - many thanks for that. It will give me a chance to try it out, compared with FMP. I think the weather forecast for Monday isn't so good so that will be a good excuse.
