    Decoupage

    Does anyone do this?
I really fancy trying it. I always loved cutting things out when I worked in playgroups, and I fancy doing something crafty that isn't too messy and I can do indoors.
My friend does some lovely creative but messy art work in her garage. I'm more of an indoor girl
I have seen photos of some lovely things which people have decorated.

I used to do,this. Made some nice pictures and it’s also nice to make greetings cards. You can get some lovely kits too.

This is is a photo of one of my pictures. Sorry it’s not very good, lots of reflection.

Enfys, that’s lovely and looks very accomplished.

Gem, I think Libra Gran does it too, and what about Nana?

I have looked through the Handmade By You section, and yes, Libra has done some decoupage.
She posted a photograph of a tray she had done. Funnily enough we have very similar wooden tray, painted white. I always thought the white was boring and impractical and intended to paint it one day. I think I will decoupage it instead

Gem - that's a good idea! I remember Libra's tray - it was lovely, and I think she 'upcycled' a little cupboard round about the same time.

If ever I need ideas or to learn new techniques I look on Pinterest &/or YouTube.

Careful not to get decoupage mixed up with another technique called collage. Decoupage is layering shapes to make a 3D picture, (as can be seen in the beautiful picture Enfys did). Collage (which I think is the one you need Gem) is cutting out pictures/ fotos etc, arranging them on your chosen surface, gluing them in place then covering it over with your mod podge when dry. I've used PVA in the past & it works well as it dries clear.

Hope you don't mind me saying this Gem. (You can remove it if you do). I hope I'm not teaching Grandma to suck eggs.

No, I don't mind at all Nana
I have read quite a few articles and watched a video about decoupage though and they describe what you call collage as decoupage. Maybe it has two names

I think you can get sheets of pictures ready cut out to do decoupage Gem. Saves all the fiddly cutting out individually. I'm sure I saw it in Hobbycraft.
Believe you can and you're halfway there.

Thanks WG, yes I think Hobbycraft and The Range do those

Sorry Gem, I got it wrong. Glad it didn't come up in my exams or I would have got that wrong. It just goes to show how we learn something every day (if we're lucky). There are so many 'ages' as in collage, decoupage, photomontage etc. Hope that you put a pic on when you've finished it.

Reminder to self to start doing this! The white wooden tray still awaits

Gem - get cracking! I really wanted to go and do some pyrography with having a quiet day today, but it was too cold in the summer house, even with the heater on, and it's not the sort of craft you can do on your kitchen table if your kitchen table is glass like ours!
