My MIL and me saw the Queen and Prince Philip in 1977.
They visited our town when they did a tour of the country for the silver jubilee.

      RIP Elizabeth R.

I saw the Queen when she visited our Town when I was at school we where all lined up with our little flags waving the car went past very slowly and I am convinced to this day she waved specially back at me.
She was the backbone of this Country and will be greatly missed RIP Ma'am.

The only time I saw the Queen was on a civic visit to our town when I was in Junior school. I can't remember the details of where we were, and she was driven round in an open-top car.

I think part of her magic was that she made a special connection with everyone she met, however briefly. I would like to hope that she leaves a legacy of duty, service to community and kindness.

            Rest in Peace, your Majesty.

I saw The Queen when she was in a beautiful carriage on her way to Westminster Abbey to be crowned. The Queen looked so small in that huge carriage all on her own, she looked so tiny. I stood on the Embankment with hundreds of other school children and watched the procession, it was a horrible cold wet day. Our Queen was loved all over the world.

I feel sure she was in the carriage on her own going but pictures I have seen since, I think Prince Philip was with her on her return. We didn’t see them return, maybe they went a different route back to the palace or we had to leave to get back home. It was announced over the tannoy that Hilary and Tensing had conquered Everest. I remember being in a Biology lesson when someone came and told us that the King had died. All a long time ago.

I saw the Royal Family at Royal Ascot one year. I remember thinking how small they all were except for Diana who seemed to tower over The Queen. Also saw the Queen and Princes Margaret at King's Cross Station on their way to Sandringham, both wearing headscarves and looking quite inconspicuous. I believe the queen visited my home town and all the schoolchildren went to one of the parks to greet her, but I can't remember it!

She will be sorely missed even by those who are anti-Monarchy .

So sad to awaken yesterday morning here in Australia to the news of the Queen passing. Although not really unexpected, it's the end of an era. She exuded such calm, dignity and resilience. Her smile, her twinkly eyes, her humour, her excitement when something truly grabbed her and her strong sense of duty, she was a special lady indeed and will be so missed.

Missy, I think most of us here in the UK are still in a state of shock. Of course, we knew it was inevitable, but she's been such a constant in our lives and most people can't remember a time when she wasn't our Queen.

My OH was at a meeting last night, one which always concludes with the singing of the National Anthem. For most people it was the first time they had sung "God Save the King". It must have seemed very strange.

Daisy, I agree we are in state of shock, and mourning. As the Queen Mother lived to be 101, I fully expected the Queen to reach that age. So although she had very long life, I still feel cheated I think.

A little girl not born to be Queen, and a young woman who shouldn't have had to take on that role at such a young age, due to the death of her father.
Our Queen did such a wonderful job as I feel everyone agrees, even those who don't consider themselves to be royalists.

I am so glad that she lived to celebrate her platinum jubilee with the country this summer.
I think it is an true example of her commitment to her duties to the last, that 2 days before she passed away, she welcomed in the new PM and said goodbye to the outgoing one.
I'm sure she insisted she was out of bed, fully dressed and even smiling for the cameras.
70 years of a wonderful sovereign. We shall certainly never see the like again I am sure.

I copied this from post I made in a different thread during the Jubilee period -

In 1971 took part in a production called the York Pageant, every night in the Museum Gardens for a month.
During that time (York's 2000th anniversary) there was a garden party in the Museum Gardens, to which the Queen was invited. By invitation only of course and all the Pageant cast were invited. My mum was very proud and wished it was her. At 17 my friend I and were less impressed, especially as we had to wear a hat and white gloves, it was a requirement of the invitation.
We didn't speak to her, but saw her at close quarters
