    Private Health care Vs NHS

This evening I had a private appointment regarding my Bronchiectasis. I did this as I wasn’t happy with the treatment given by the hospital or local GPs. I have researched the problem and so I have an idea what should happen when I get an attack. All was confirmed by private Dr.. who will write to the surgery with a plan for when I am ill. This should have been done by the hospital Dr. but it wasn’t and I spent a lot of last year being very unwell. We don’t have insurance any longer so it stuck in my craw that I must pay £200 for a private Dr. to put right all the things they got so wrong. I did question my treatment at the surgery but they know best of course. (not) 🙄
Moan over, feeling a whole lot better about everything now.

GM - I know in lots of ways the NHS is amazing - you only have to look at the care Oma's B and Enfy's P have received, but sometimes it falls down, and then it seems to fall down badly. It's awful that you have had to go through a year of being poorly, especially when you knew enough about the condition to be able to say what help you needed.

I'm sure the £200 will prove to be a good investment in your future health, and I'm glad you're feeling better about things now. xx

I think sometimes fresh eyes looking into the problem. It was a new doctor coming to the practice that put me on the right path to find out why I was falling and referring me to a Cardiac Specialist, who I saw privately.

I suppose it's easy to forget that our GPs are generalists, and any specialisms they have are probably prompted by personal interests, but it's not much consolation when you see the 'wrong' one for your particular problem.

The NHS has been wonderful to us but I'm sure like everything there are lots of times if falls very short ,
Having said that it happens in the private sector ,
My SIL's father had his Gall bladder out at a Private hospital cost him thousands but the NHS waiting list at the time was very long ,

All went well or so they thought but he was very ill and in lots of pain for several days . It was then discovered that while the surgeon was taking his Gall bladder out he had managed to nick his Liver
They had to transfer him to the NHS hospital to have it repaired and still charged him full price

Accidents and missed diagnosis happen in all sectors , as Plant said a fresh pair of eyes even if you have to pay for them

I’m not knocking the NHS in general, I was just unfortunate enough to be in the care of a young Dr who appears not to know enough! I have two friends with the same condition, both have ended up going privately. Luckily I don’t require any surgery and the condition should not get any worse. All I needed was a proper plan which I now have.

GM - you must be feeling very relieved about getting a proper plan to manage your condition. It puts you back in the driving seat and you can get on with your life without constantly wondering how you will be from one day to the next. xx

Good for you Grauntie, we should do whatever we need to to get the best treatment we can.

I agree with Daisy our GPs are generalists of all illnesses and not specialists in certain illnesses , twice I have had to pay privately for help both with my bladder and my cough , and got it sorted out then by NHS it shouldn’t happen but I did also get moved up the waiting list quite significantly. I also had a bladder op that unfortunately set off the problem I have ended up with on the NHS but done by a private hospital by the same surgeon and NHS paid for it due to such s long waiting list at my hospital , I think this is the way to go now see someone privately first and take it from there, but this isn’t easy if money is tight for some people , glad you got sorted anyway GM

Our NHS is wonderful, but i suppose they can fail us sometimes.
GM, at least you have a plan now,so i would say it was worth it,going private.

If my mum gets no help at the doctor today, I may speak to her about maybe going private.

Don't forget you can always ask for a second opinion if you're not satisfied Gem.😊
