    Bronchiectasis

Just an aside to Clover’s thread.
Gem, you mentioned I had been unwell a lot recently and apparently this is the reason why. It is caused by scarring of the lungs which is caused by excessive smoking, (not had a fag since I was in my 20s), radiotherapy in that area, (didn’t have that), or a viral infection which is a maybe. Never ever had a cough until last year. The support from the NHS is non existent so far, and I have one more hospital appointment before I am discharged! I will have this condition until I peg out, it will never go. I have told GP (also no help) I would like to see a proper consultant privately. I am only well for a few weeks at a time if I am lucky and I need answers. Ha! Grauntie is on the case....
so please forgive me if I don’t post much, it’s because I feel peely wally.

That does seem unfair Grauntie, I suppose they can't repair the scarring.

No Plant, I understand that, but all I am ever told is as soon as I think I might have a chest infection ring the GP and get antibiotics. I am not medically trained so I have been making an appointment for someone to listen to my chest first. The last twice it has been clear so I have refused their ‘just in case’ antibiotics as the infection must be viral.

Very wise Grauntie, you don't want to overuse the antibiotics

Oh Grauntie it sounds as though you have been really unlucky to get this.
You are wise to investigate all avenues for this. Wishing you all the best, and when you feel poorly don't ever worry about not posting!

GM - I had never heard of this, so I Googled it and found several support groups. This one is British and looked 'sensible'. I hope it might be of some help.

But you would have thought your GP could do more to help.

I have looked there Daisy, but thanks anyway. Only ever been asked for a sample when it was checked for TB. There is no support offered. GPs can’t wait to get me out of the door. I don’t think they know what to do with me. I am swimming around in the dark here, it seem ludicrous to discharge me when I am struggling to manage the situation. Anyway, I will see a specialist privately and take it from there.

It's dreadful that you are not being offered any support to manage the condition. Just from a very brief look at that Support Group, it seems that some people are getting amazing help. I suppose it's another situation of it being a post code lottery. I certainly hope seeing a private consultant will give you some answers. Big hugs xx

Grauntie how rotten for you. I hope the Private Specialist can help you. I feel sorry that this is the only route left to you because your doctors have let you down. Do keep us posted when you are well.😘

Sadly private seems the only way to go. We no longer have insurance though. I have two friends who have the same condition, both are treated privately, both treatments are different for some reason, but they are treated!
Oh dear, I seem to have turned this into a Moaning Minnie thread. That was not the intention but it has helped getting it off my chest.(🙄)
                    I will survive. 😉😷
