    Poorly DD

The phone rang yesterday morning about 10-30am and it was DD ringing from work to say she was in the nurses office after taking ill whilst at work, she couldn't walk and was being very sick so they arranged for her to be taken to the assessment ward at our local hospital I had to quickly get dressed as I was lounging in PJs and get up to the hospital and see what had happened.
DD had woken in the night and had awful pain in her back on rhside and was in tears with the pain, she said she would rather have given birth as the pain was so bad,we stayed in the ward for 2 hrs before she was seen to and offered pain relief the we had to wait for a registrar to try and confirm what the problem was so that took another 2.5hrs for him to come on the ward I realise we had to wait as he was conducting a clinic when he arrived he said he needed to get a urologist as her water sample showed protein and blood and she was very low on her iron count unfortunatly the urologist was in theatre at an emergency and we had to wait until 5.15pm for him to arrive,he has diagnosed kidney stones and said they are not massive and hopefully if she drinks loads they may flush away themselves if not they can blast them out for her,we then had to wait for pain killers and as the pharmacy supplies the whole hospital we where at the bottom of the list and had to wait until 7.15 for said tablets to arrive,DD has been told to go back to the ward if things don't improve over the next week or so and they will investigate more for her, what a day !!

Oh, Glamm, your poor DD, and how awful that she had to wait so long. You can understand that doctors are busy and inevitably there are emergencies. Were they able to give her any pain relief while she was waiting? She must have been in agony.

My OH has had kidney stones twice - about 30 years apart - and each time they've passed without further treatment except pain relief and lots of water. Since the last lot about 5 years ago I pour him a pint of water every morning and nag him if he doesn't drink it, in addition to normal teas, coffees etc.

Glamm OH has had kidney stones twice and he has said that the pain is terrible so I understand completely how she must be feeling.
First time OH had stones they were blasted by infrared lights as they were far to big to be passed but the second time all ( I say all but I am not belittling this ) he had to do was drink plenty of water and take lots of pain killers.
Hope your DD is soon feeling much better .
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

B has had them a couple of times and they passed with lots of water ,
A few month ago we had to take our friend to A&E early on the morning with them ,we were there all day but he did get strong pain relief when we got there
They do say they are more painful than child birth , so poor DD must have been in agony .

I remember my grandmother saying that she would rather have given birth to all her 6 children than endure the pain when she had kidney stones, so it must be bad!
Poor DD , Glamma, she must have been in such pain. I hope as others have said she can pass them easily and feels better soon.

DD now has the correct pain relief we had to wait until the next day before they where ready to be collected,it was due to staff shortages in the pharmacy that was the problem, she is now feeling better but still in some discomfort she has gone back into work and been issued with a support chair for her job thank goodness she finishes work to-day until the 27th she can't afford to be off sick as SSP makes for a large drop in her salary, she can relax on those days off as I am in sole charge of all the catering (I love doing it) I will prep everything at my house and take to hers so easy peasy. Thanks for all your kind words ladies xx

Glamm - pleased to hear your DD is feeling a bit better. Thank goodness she's got her lovely Mum to do Christmas for her so she can rest. I remember my OH being very tired when he had kidney stones.

Glam my OH has been in & out of hospital with kidney stones. So many times I've lost count. I can sympathise with the worry it caused you & the pain your DD must have endured. The last time he went in he was straight on morphine. He's had different treatments depending on how many, where located & the size. The last he had blasted & he said it felt like an elastic band 'twanging'.

Interestingly enough they told him to avoid coke. I don't know if your DD drinks it but it might be worth telling her. I hope she's ok now. Awful pain.

Nana - I've never heard of being told not to drink coke. Was it coke specifically or any fizzy drink> By the way - when I first read your post I read 'coke' as 'cake' - which is even more puzzling!!!

Glamm - has your DD recovered properly now?

Daisy, it was coke, (not cake) they told him to avoid if possible. 😆 I was wondering how your DD was getting on too Glam. Hope she's feeling better.
