    Gyms

OH and I were stiff as boards when we got out of the car today after being at Bakewell, we just don't get enough exercise we have been talking about joining a gym has anyone like us getting on in years done this, my OH doesn't like water he cant t swim so doesn't fancy aquarobics , we have an exercise bike it's ok for hanging clothes on, I brought it down and put it in the conservatory so we would see it and use it but nope we don't, yet I am thinking of getting a treadmill but will it be like the bike something to dust πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ

Funny you should start this thread Qwerty. We have been thinking the same thing. The only thing stopping me is whether we would actually go enough to warrant spending the money, it's quite expensive here. After we did our GP referral we were all set to join, but after we did the gym induction DH developed phlebitis so we decided to leave it for a while. Now we are trying to walk as much as we can and we are going to use our Wii fit thingy! If we joined the gym we would only use two or three of the machines and I would go swimming, which I can do anyway without being a member. We also have bikes and an exercise bike so are going to do our own thing and try and get fitter that way. It's my stamina I need to improve so need to get off my bottom and just move more.

Qwerty - our local posh hotel has a gym, pool, sauna etc - the whole works - and at one time they used to give full members a voucher for non-members to use between Christmas and New Year, and our gym-bunny friends used to give us the vouchers. So for a week (when there was nothing much else happening) we'd go every evening, try out some of the less hostile-looking machines, go for a swim, a jacuzzi and the steam room. It was lovely, and I liked the feeling when we got home that we had had exercise, relaxed and come home physically tired but totally chilled out. We also found we ate less too - which was a pity when we had all the Christmas leftovers, cake and loads of chocolates!

I definitely felt better for it, but the only machine I really got on with in the gym was the rowing machine.

So we should have splashed out (excuse the pun!) and joined, but we knew once normal life resumed in the New Year we wouldn't be able to keep that level of commitment up. Although we're now retired, we still couldn't go often enough to make it worthwhile.

I find even a few days at the caravan make me get more exercise. Whatever the weather Eva needs comfort breaks several times a day, so I walk a lot more than at home and I need to keep that level of activity up when we're at home. I shall start ....... tomorrow? Maybe. If it's not raining.

Maybe we need an exercise motivation thread πŸ™‚. DD has an app on her phone that tells her how many steps she has done, maybe I'll get that.

OH and myself were talking about this a few days ago, we wouldn't join a Gym as the membership fees can work out to be a little bit expensive if you don't go regularly enough and we know we would be quite keen at first but that wouldn't last. You have to go often to get your money worth.

I have a Wii Fit in the cupboard, I haven't got round to setting it up to the Tv yet. I used to use it every day when we lived in the house but it was packed away in a box when we moved and it's still in the box in the cupboard!

Best I manage in between rushing between tubes and construction sites is half an hour walk if I am working at home during the day. I can swim but wouldn't want to go on my own. Thought about a cycle machine thing but not enough room in the flat at the moment, not until we sort the bedrooms out.

How about a fitness video Qwerty, maybe you and your OH would use that.

I'm with Oma on this one.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜±

I asked OH where our Wii Fit was as I'd seen the plate to stand on but no other bits to go with it. I thought GS1 would love it. Guess what? He's no idea what he's done with them. Some good that is 😨

I sooooooo need more exercise. OH gets plenty on the golf course, and with all the gardening and DIY she does.

I love aqua fit and must start that again. The pool closed down but there is another I could go to. Walking has always been my main exercise, and I really need to get back to that, build up so I can walk as far as I could before.
Never been to a gym, and doubt I ever will

A friend of mine, who couldn't afford a Gym, exercises every morning, just stretches etc and belongs to a walking group to keep fit.
