Things you wish you had appreciated when you were younger!

Almost every day I wish I had appreciated good sight when I had it in my younger days. I would love not to have to wear glasses, and not to be dazzled when driving by headlights in star shapes (even after cataract ops!)

I wish I had appreciated being able to walk further and faster, and not to have so many and various aches and pains.

I wish I had appreciated being able to sleep through the whole night!

What do you wish you had appreciated when you had it?!

Good health , Late family , Waking on a morning not having to wonder what part of me is going to ache today , Energy, oh I do miss that , being able to go all day without feeling worn out , most of all Strength . I was very strong and took it for granted , now I find I cant even take a lid off without help never mind shift furniture . I get very frustrated having to ask and wait for help , don't like it at all .
Im not fat just 6ft too small

I think for me it is strength and endurance. I used to be able to move heavy furniture, and never had to ask for help. I could keep going all day and not even be tired at the end of it.

Like Oma, I'd like to wake up and not wonder how many aches and pains had developed during the night.

Being able to bend to pick things up without worrying if today my back is going to 'go' again.
Run, sneeze or jump without any 'ooops' accidents
And what I would give to have endless energy again.

Time... we don't really appreciate it do will, blink and 10 years have passed by.
When I was 16 I thought I had all the time in the world and old age seemed so far away .

To be able to throw back the bedcovers and jump out of bed without having to think which part of my body is working properly to-day,going off to work all day and arrive home still with the energy to cook and clean for the next day,lay in bed at night and read my book without dropping off within 5 mins. The list could be endless if I sat and thought about it.

General energy is the thing I didn't really appreciate when I was younger.
Of course also OH''s mental health, both for his sake and the fact that he took care of all the business type "stuff",dealing with repairs, arranging workmen etc.etc.which I now do but HATE.

Being able to run and generally move better. Stamina, I really don't have much any more. And my Mum!

It is amazing (not in a good way!) How many of us mention aches and pains. My mum is almost 89 and doesn't so it's not an inevitable part of ageing. But common, it seems.

Gem - I wonder if your mum is of the generation who were more accepting - old age was a time to take things easy, be looked after with nobody expecting much from you in terms of say, childcare. Today we expect to have the same amount of energy and mobility as our own children, and many of us spend a lot of time looking after little ones.

Mimi - time is a tricky thing. Can you remember how long the week before your birthday/holiday or that December event was? It crawled by! Now a year flashes past before we've even noticed. Perhaps it has to be that way or our poor brains would go into overload and short circuit!

Plant, it's the same for me. I have no bounce at all! Energy too, no matter what I eat, how long I sleep. I never have much these days.
                            Smooth skin, now I have wrinkles and I wish I didn't. 🙄

The days before ME/CFS. I could paint & decorate (wallpaper) in 2 days. One day so the paint was dry & a day to paper. Not small rooms either.
