    Wasted day

Arrived at Hospital at 9.30 , went to ward they had no appointment booked in , told girl on desk what it was for and what Dr booked it , sorry your not on our list take a seat and I will see what we can do , sat down grumbling and getting cross , looked at his appointment card and we at the wrong ward we should have been in the Transplant unit , so had to go back to desk and relay this to the nurse , lucky I hadn't complained I had been very sweet with her (phew )
Walked all the way back the way we had came to the transplant unit ,
Got there transplant nurse took one look at his rash he's been treated a week for with no improvement and insisted before they did anything the Dr should be called , 45 mins later he arrived hummed tutted and said he wasn't sure he wanted the Consultant to look at it , so Consultant called he was on ward rounds would be 1 hour or more , sure enough 1 hour later he arrived and decided that before they do the top up he wanted a biopsy done ,so top up cancelled, another hour for someone from the lab to come take a sample and now have to wait for results ,
The reason for all this is it may be Graft V Host . he has had a small amount of this before but it can present in different rashes and dry skin , If it is GVH and they give him more Bone Marrow it could actually kill him they wouldn't be able to control it , so in a way a good reason not to go ahead ,
We have just come home and have to do it all again next week provided its not GVH
Nothing is straight forward is it for this man , hes a pain in the bum

Just means if it is GVH he wont need a top up as his body will be sorting it out itself so in one way a good sign but in another its all these rashes etc to treat
A little GVH is good too much is bad its a fine line

Oh dear Oma, what a day. But best to be safe, how long before you get the results.

Plant you get to know so much over the years and understand medical jargon a lot better than you did at the start , but I must say all the Dr's, nurses and Consultants we have seen explain it all in plain language so you understand .
Its very hot in them places and I always come out with a headache I must admit but I also think I still get very tense when we go, that's what causes the headache .

Poor B , his treatment is so complicated isn't it , but then even though we all love B, he never does things by half does he ?

Hope it all works out for B, Oma. We find when we come back from appointments that we feel shattered. I think you get so wound up without realising it, that it's a relief when it's all over.
