H Qwerty. Yes, I had this for a year, from 2014 - 15., and it was horrible. Eventually I saw a "foot nurse" I paid privately as I couldn't get an appointment for 6 months !!! It was only £25 and she came and said I did have very flat feet.
This was news to me as I've always had good arches, but I guess that' part of getting older. Anyway, I was "pronating" my foot, ...take a look at this link:
Learn how to identify over pronation and supination, and get the right shoes to support your foot type. Plus foot and ankle treatment and prevention strategies!
This was also because I have osteoarthritis of the knees, and I was compensating for pain there by pronating my feet.
This nurse gave me a sort of HEEL to put into my shoe which gave me an arch. It really helped although it did take some getting used to, and after a year of misery it did go away.
There are specialist shops which sell shoes for this condition. You can also get some at the Hotter website I think. Basically you have to wear shoes which compel you to walk straight and with an arch. The pain will then gradually disappear.
Tkae peek at these other links, and do see someone if you can. There is help out there, and this is a very common problem. Good luck.

Ouch Qwerty!!
I had it about 12 to 15years ago. It was very painful, especially when I started walking each morning. It eventually went away and hasn't recurred since.
I didn't have any specialist equipment but did make sure I always wore supportive shoes such as trainers.“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

Qwerty - poor you. It is incredibly painful and the two features I remember particularly was excruciating pain first thing in the morning, and that sometimes it would ease off and then suddenly come back at its worst, quite randomly. There was never any obvious reason why it would either feel better, or suddenly feel worse.
I went to the doctor, who prescribed RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) which did no good at all. So on the advice of a doctor friend I went back and pestered until he gave me an injection into the site of the greatest pain. It wasn't an immediate cure all, but I also did exercises, and, the most effective thing was to fill a small round water bottle with water, freeze it and then when I was sitting roll my foot backwards and forwards over it. I also bought some very supportive Asics trainers, and gel arch and heel supports for other shoes from Boots.
If I were you, though, I'd definitely go to the doctor's for a diagnosis, because it sounds as though the pain in your foot is in your heel, rather than on the inside of your arch. If you treat for the wrong thing you could make it worse.
The exercises on this link were all useful:
The plantar fascia is a thin ligament that connects your heel to the front of your foot. It causes heel pain in over 50 percent of Americans.
I did the towel one lying on the bed (with a bigger towel!) before I got up in the morning.
This is quite informative, too:
Please don't just think it will get better on its own (it probably will, but could take a long time) - it's so painful you don't want to be putting up with it a minute longer than necessary. Let us know how you get on. xx

Qwerty, most surgeries do have a "foot doctor" try them first although there is usually a long waiting list as they normally only visit about once a week. But they do work privately and it is well worth the money. After such a long time of misery, it had gone by 6 weeks! Worth every penny XOnly those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. T.S Eliot
