My dad used to suffer from them every winter - until he got a pair of fur-line boots one winter, and he never had them again. So perhaps keeping warm is the answer, and prevention is better than cure.
Before the fur-line boots he used to use something which was called, I think, Snowfire, which helped. It was a green stick, rather like an alien's idea of lipsalve if I remember rightly.
Edit: I've just Googled it and it's still available:

Thanks for all your advice, I will try your suggestions. Because I take warfarin my hands and feet are usually cold and I think the change of temperature when they warm up is probably the cause but so far it is only the little toe on my right foot, it is humming now. Oma a wedge shape foam cushion can be brought which are designed for leg cramps. The idea is you pop them in your bed where your feet would be and your feet are raised slightly which is supposed to help the blood flow which should help with the cramps.Bring me sunshine in your smile.
