    Orthotics

Has anyone any experience of these?

I am considering them to help my knee and back pain. I have a curvature of the spine, diagnosed when I was 12, and definitely don't walk well now I am older.
My cat sitter and occasional client had them made and they made a lot of difference to her.

Gem - I know someone who has them - made specifically for him for his shoes. I do't know what the problem is, but he's a very fit and active 50 year old who does lots of running, gym stuff etc.

They can be for foot problems, and back, hip and knee problems. Runners often need them. My catsitter/client/friend, had them custom made for similar problems to me, which is what makes me hopeful!

gem - it's certianly worth looking into it. I thinkthey are quite expensive, but definitely worth it if it eases your back and knee.

Well worth investigating, Gem. I know what it's like to,have knee problems and we grasp at any straw. Hope you find something to help you. I found a knee strap helped me when I was walking and I still use it occasionally if I'm having problems. My knees have been much better lately and I think, in my case, it might be the cod liver oil and glucosamine (plus I've lost a bit of weight).

Enfys, I need to lose weight and am trying. Glucosamine is a good idea.
Daisy, how much they cost will affect whether in the end it is a possibility for me, as no pension yet and very low income! I know they won't be cheap. I will look into it though, as health and pain reduction are worth paying for if possible!

I have found Actipatch to be one of the most helpful pain relievers. I think you can still get a weeks trial for about £5 which gives a good guide as to whether it will suit the individual. Apparently they are a up to date version of a tens machine. I must have spent a small fortune on products that other people swear by.

Gem I had something like this for when I had fallen arches. Very painful, can't recall the medical term offhand!!! The lady came round to fit me with two and they did help as although it took a few more weeks in the end they worked. Cost me £50 for the two made to measure. Good luck.
