    So that's what it is!

For a good while I've had a pain behind my right knee, some times worse than others. Anyway over the last week it has intensified to the point of barely being able to put any weight on that leg. In the night it was stabbing me when I moved.Yesterday it came to a point where I was even considering going to A and E.Then I remembered it was open surgery at our docs. today so I hobbled along on a stick and OH's arm. It turns out I have a Baker's Cyst which is associated with osteoarthritis. There isn't much in the way of treatment at the moment as they can resolve on their own and the doctor said a steroid injection is a possibility but he wasn't too keen on that . So it's painkillers, ice packs and rest!!! I could go to the drop-in Physio. clinic for exercises but I have found some on-line that they would probably give me anyway. Note to self- stock up on Neurofen!

        Thank you ladies.
Apparently it is a build up of the fluid round the joint when the bones rub together due to the arthritis. It forms a swelling behind the knee.
This getting older lark is not a lot of fun !

Clover, a year or so ago a medical friend of ours said she thought I had a Bakers Cyst, from the description of the pain I was having at the time.I wasn't sure she was right, but whatever it was, it eventually went away!

Painkillers and rest Clover, for sure! If I was close enough I would pop round to see you, and make sure you were obeying xx

Hope it does get better sooner rather than later Clover.

Clover - it sounds very painful. I hope you can manage to rest it enough. It's all very well for GPs to dish out this advice, but it's not always easy to put into practice. The exercises sound useful. xx
