    Ear cleaner?

Has anyone every tried one of the ear cleaner gadgets that appear in magazine leaflets. They are often advertised as two for £15 so a bit expensive if they turn out to be a waste of money.

I have now answered my own question! Checked on e-bay and lots available for very low price! Then checked with Amazon and not so many but slated in reviews though one person commented that it made a very good keyboard cleaner!!

Shem I don't know if you are having trouble hearing but when mum's ears were blocked the practice nurse swore by a product called Earol, which is a relly good dispenser of olive oil. She used it for a week then went back to see the nurse. The softened wax was washed out without any bother.

I don't think it is advisable to clean our own ears with anything more than a cotton bud, and even then we shouldn't go far in. Olive oil to soften, then syringing by a nurse is what's needed if there is a wax build up. Maybe best kept for a keyboard cleaner, as you say Shem!

Gem ...... you'd laugh when I tell you this. The nurse told me that you shouldn't put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow.

Don't really have a blocked ear but sometimes my ears feel a bit uncomfortable and I use a cotton bud though you're not really supposed to. Some very dangerous looking ear cleaning metal spikey things available when you google!

Nana -I've heard that too. I think syringing is looked on as high dangerous these days. You almost have to go into the surgery using sign language to get it done.

My OH bought one of those because our practice nurse wouldn't clear is ears because she could see the eardrum and the latest machine is so strong it can damage it. He needed hearing aids, he was asked to get his ears syringed but because the nurse said no he had it done privately so he could get hearing aids

We do have a fine time with olive oil and a cotton bud. OH has hearing aids and has at times had infection because of them so has anti biotic drops for when this happens.

Goodness me, I didn't realise ear cleaning was such a dangerous activity.

                        I've heard this as well.

We use cotton buds, although I know it's not recommended.
