    Allergies!

    Do you have any allergies?

I, in common with others am suffering from hay fever brought on by tree pollen. That is usually my worst trigger, but I can suffer with grass pollen at times.

I am also allergic to penicillin and amoxicillin.
It's on all my medical and dental notes and it's not something you take by accident! I wear gloves if pouring penicillin for the GC.

DD1 has a nut allergy ( not peanuts) and this landed her in hospital with breathing difficulties years ago. We wonder if she has outgrown it, but she's not going to put it to the test of course. She is quite lax about her epi pen as it's been so long.

Gem, As you say, you don't take prescription drugs like penicillin by accident, but you are very wise to wear gloves when handling it. My niece who is a nurse developed a penicillin allergy which landed her in A&E during Covid. She now doesn't make up that drug for patients.

I'm intolerant to dairy cream (I don't think it's severe enough to call it an allergy), and I have bad skin reactions to wool and lanolin. Nothing life threatening, thank goodness, but just things I avoid.

DGS is allergic to sesame and walnuts. Also peanuts though he did go on a two year desensitizing course. He started off having a quarter of a boiled peanut ( a challenge for DD!) then very slowly built up to half a boiled peanut ,then three quarters and so on and so on.Two years on he now takes a maintenance dose of two peanut M and Ms a day though obviously still avoids peanuts. However we are now reassured that if he did accidentally ingest peanuts his reaction wouldn’t be so severe. He does carry an Epi -pen at all time and has got good at asking if things contain his triggers nuts.It was well worth having the inconvenience of regular trips to St Mary’s hospital in London.

Nanto, that seems quite rare these days, but great that you don't have to worry.

Clover, the desensitisation process must have been very hard for both your GS and his Mum and Dad, but well w0rth it.

I didn't think of it until now, but our dog is allergic to chicken. Apparently it's not that unusual for dogs to have bad reactions to chicken and beef, but Eva's ok with beef. Nearly every dog treat contains chicken or "animal derivatives", which could include chicken. People often try to offer her treats so we always give them fish treats we know are safe for her.

            I have a shell fish allergy ,
I carry epi pens with me all the time ,
If we go for a meal out I tend to go for a vegetarian dish and always makes them aware,
I am also intolerant to cucumber skin and raw spring onions and bananas , I hate not being able to eat them as I love banana ,
B let's me sniff his banana if he is eating one 😁
I am ok with cucumber as long as it's peeled and spring onions in a stir fry , as long as they are cooked I'm fine ,
            Strange isn't it.

B is allergic to Amoxicillin and augmenting,

My DD is like my mother intolerant to Pineapple,

My GSs friend has a peanut allergy and went through a long process like Clovers GS to desenstitize
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Due to my ibs I am intolerant to chili and beef, I can't have those at all without bad reaction. If I have too much cheese (which I love) that makes me ill. Luckily I can have cheese and yogurt, just not aways as much as I would like.
When they ask at restaurants I will say I am intolerant to chili, but not allergic.

Allergies are so scary as they are the ones that can kill. There have been so many sad stories about someone accidently ingesting their allergen. Like the famous Pret sesame one, that poor young girl .

Gem, the memory of that poor girl stays with you, doesn't it.

I love cheese, too, and would miss it if I couldn't eat it.
