Have you read about this meningitis outbreak in Kent ?

It's scary so many have it ,

I know what it's like I had meningitis in 1986 I was very ill in hospital for a long time,

I hope these young people recover well, sad for the families of the two that have already died,

It scares me to hear this .

Oma, it frightens me, too. It must have been an awful time for you and your family. Thank goodness you recovered. I remember a girl in my class having it when we were about 13. She was off school for 2 terms, and you could tell the teachers were very worried about her and they were afraid more girls could get it.

Hopefully better antibiotic treatments and more information being available will protect other youngsters.

It will be every. Parents nightmare for those in uni ,

I had memory loss for a long time , simple things like a knife or a door I couldn't remember the name ,
My eye wouldn't open as the muscle went , I had to have physio for that as well .
I couldn't concentrate for a long time or read ,

I was in and out of consciousness but I remember the pain in my head and spine ,
And the fever ,
About 6 weeks in the skin on my hands and feet shredded like a lizard because of my body heat .

I consider myself extremely lucky ,
My Dr had came to the house
B had called him I was barely able to open my eyes the light felt like my eyes were burning, couldn't sit up or drink ,
He recognised the symptoms instantly and I was blue lighted to the hospital.

Oma, that sounds absolutely dreadful. What a worry and all that pain as well. Thank goodness B recognised the symptoms and the doctor responded so quickly.

I remember a student at college being ill, and the College nurse and I, worried sick in case it was meningitis, not being able to get in touch with her mother, which was what we were supposed to do. We didn't want to frighten the student, but were at the point of calling 999 when her mother finally got back to us. It wasn't meningitis, thank goodness, but the worry is the same when you don't know.

It was the Dr who recognised the symptoms, to be honest I don't think we had heard much about meningitis before that.

It was funny as when I was being put in the Ambulance , my DD was about 13 then and my nextdoor neighbour asked her what was wrong with me and my DD said laryngitis

I've been following this on the news. Hope there no more taken ill with it.
Hope the antibiotics do their job, and there no moe lives lost.

This really is scary. It spreads so quickly. It makes you wonder how a new, fresh outbreak just materialises. Apparently the current one originates from a nightclub. How do they know this? Of course wondering doesn’t detract from extreme sympathy for everyone involved.
BTW DD went to University of Kent and I know how I’d feel if she were there now.

I don't think I would have been so lucky if it was now.

It's heart-breaking for the families of the young people who have lost their lives, and I can imagine how worried parents of other students must be.

Clover, I assumed the nightclub was the only place the both youngsters who have died had been at the same time. It must seem extra personal to you with your DD having been there. I felt like that about the murders of the two students and the older man in Nottingham, as that's where my DS2 went. You can picture everything, and it's frightening.
