    Falls in the snow

Today my friend Dorothy had a bad fall trying to get into the car,
As she is disabled and in a wheelchair plus she is a very large lady with Lymphoedema in both legs ,
She was unable to get up and James just recovering from broken ribs couldn't lift her,

He rang for a ambulance as she was in pain, they said it would be 3 hours ,
She was lying in the snow freezing.

He then rang the fire brigade, as being an ex fire chief he knew they could help ,
Only to be told they don't do call outs like this anymore.

He then rang the Ambulance back, again told still be over 2 hours,
All this time she was getting colder and colder.

He rang the Fire brigade back again, spoke to the chief and said he was afraid hypothermia could set in ,
They came within minutes this time.

Got her into her wheelchair and back into the flat ,

About a hour later the ambulance turned up and checked her out,
Her core temperature was very low and she was feeling very tired and faint,

They wrapped her in those tin foil blankets and gave her meds etc.

Made her drink 2 cups of warm tea and stayed till her temperature came up.

They have told James if he's worried or she doesn't seem right to ring back.

Luckily nothing was broken but they are both very shocked.

Oh no. That’s awful. Poor lady and her hubby. She is lucky no physical damage but it’ll certainly have shaken them both up.

Oh poor Dorothy Oma. It's the pain, shock and embarrassment in these cases.
Hopefully with warmth and rest she will be OK.

Many years ago when GD was a baby I slipped on snow and ice on a client's drive, fell and badly bruised my coccyx. Very painful for weeks

I've spoken to her, she said her arm hip and thigh are hurting now and bruised,
Her Lymphoedema nurse's are going out tomorrow morning to check her legs ,

She did have a little chuckle about the hunky firefighters, said they were so nice and had a bit of a laugh and teased her that she only did it to get attention from them 😁

She's not going out again till the snow goes,

Oma, your poor friend, was it in the snow?

Gem, the lady from the flat that fell on her bike on New Years Eve has bruised her coccyx, she was telling me today how she has to put her socks, shoes etc on as she can't bend.

Oma, poor Dorothy. that's such an awful thing to happen, and very frightening for her and James as she was getting colder and colder. She may be feeling even worse tomorrow when the shock has worn off a bit, but the bruises are still forming. Thank goodness her Lymphoedema nurses will be seeing her tomorrow.

Gem, that must have been very painful, and embarrassing as well.

Lizzie, I'm trying to imagine how your neighbour is managing her socks and shoes, poor lady.

Bruising your coccyx is very painful Gem,
It takes a long time to stop hurting doesn't it,

              Lizzie
Your poor friend , I can imagine the struggle getting her socks and shoes on .

Yes Dorothy fell in the snow and lay there for over a hour.

She was trying to get into the car,
James turned around to fold the wheelchair and she fell,
He feels awful but it wasn't his fault it was an accident,
She could have just as easily fallen as he was helping her couldn't she.

Oma, that's the problem. Accidents are just that, and they happen quickly, and you're never expecting them. I hope Dorothy sleeps ok tonight - she must be exhausted.

I am wondering why Dorothy was trying to get in the car in icy conditions. Poor lady and her OH must have been so worried.

They were going out for lunch with her friend Plant ,
James said it happened so quickly ,
He thought she was safely on the seat, turned around to fold her wheelchair and she went down.

She's ok that's the main thing , once they got her back in the flat and the ambulance checked her and warmed her up .
