    Disabilities

As you all know B has disabilities,
I haven’t enough fingers to count the amount of spinal and stomach operations he has had over the years,
Hes in constant pain with nerve damage down his left leg, but he never complains.
He uses crutches to aids walking, on bad days or if we are going somewhere where there is a lot of walking has an electric wheelchair.
Then there was the long battle with Cancer.

This doesn’t prevent him from doing jobs around the house or garden, he is just limited to what he can do,
like he can’t lift anything heavy or climb a ladder although if I wasn’t there he would try that’s why I made him sell the extending ladders 🙄.
Outwardly if you seen him sitting in say a cafe or looking at him he looks fine .

Now I was watching something on YouTube last night,
This young man I would say about in his 30s was in a works van and pulled into a disabled bay to go into a nearby shop.

Before he could get out several old people came up to the van and demanded he moved,
He explained he was disabled and had his blue badge , one old man demanded to see it.
He told them it was on the window but they didn’t believe him they accused him of using someone else’s,
By this time several more irate old people were there.
This went on for a while , they were hurling abuse at him and he was being so calm.

Eventually he said I will get out and show you my disability.
He got out of the van and he had two false legs.

Not one old person apologised one even suggested that as he was disabled he shouldn’t be working or driving 😱

Its 2024 disabled people don’t need to be hidden away, life is hard enough but good on him for holding a job down.
I bet half the elderly people with blue badges who were complaining had them because of their age.

Makes my blood boil, don’t judge before you know the facts , yes some take advantage of disabled bays but just because your young and have a van doesn’t say your not disabled.
This young man explained that he has this abuse on a daily basis , how he kept calm is beyond me.
But how bad mannered were these people not apologising,

    Not all disabilities are obvious.

Oma, I agree, not all disabilities are visible, or restricted to the elderly, unfortunately. I think young people with disabilities, especially if they are not obvious, have a hard time. All credit to that young man holding down a physically active job.

I think your B is amazing. He doesn't let anything stop him, and knowing that he's coping with constant pain makes him all the more a hero in my eyes.

My DS1 had a blue badge when he was ill, but he hardly ever used it because he felt he didn't need to. But I can imagine that people would wonder if it was genuine because he looked perfectly ok.

It would be wonderful if people were less ready to judge.

A lot of disabilities can't be seen. An apology from the grimblers would,'t have gone amiss.
Well done to the young man for staying calm.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

That is disgusting Oma. Not all disabilities are age related and not all are easily visible.
So sad that that poor man was used to this kind of reaction

It’s shocking Oma. When P was really ill and had been told it was terminal he had a blue badge. He was “told off “ one day for parking in a disabled bay when quote “ he was obviously ok”! This person had no idea and I was all for giving him a mouthful back but P said just walk away. This goes on all the time and sadly people are just so ignorant.

I had no idea of the extent of B’s issues, well done to him.

                Enfys ,
I know what you mean , B would say just walk away but I would want to say something .
B also has liver damage due to Hep B and kidney trouble due to Chemo for such a long time ,
