Grommets

My GS1 has been suffering with recurrent ear pain and increasing deafness for some time. The deafness is worse than ever.
Thank goodness his dad has private health insurance with his job and has added GS on to it.
He saw the consultant a couple of weeks ago. He needs grommets and now has a date - June 1st.

It has been so hard for him socially and at school. He starts secondary school in September and via the NHS I am sure he would be going in almost deaf.

Thats not long for him for him to wait Gem.
Hope there is an improvement after his operation. I'm sure there will be.

It's many months since he first saw the GP, heaven knows when he would have got a hospital appointment.

Gem, thank goodness your GS1 is being seen relatively quickly. Poor lad - it must be very frustrating for him.

He hopefully will be so much better,
My DS had grommets for a long time , he always had sinus problems that blocked his ears,
He had them syringed every 3 month when he was small, Then they put the grommets in .

Great he can get them done before secondary school , he will be so much more confident when he can hear properly.

Gemini, poor lad, thank goodness it can be sorted soon. Two of my GC had problems with throats and ears, NH (even in those days) were not dealing with it, eldest GS used to actually stop breathing when asleep because his throat was so swollen with infection and GD1 was a late speaker because of her ears. They went private to get them fixed.

I remember a friend's little girl (many years ago) was very solemn, hardly ever smiled, and they thought it was because her two brothers (her twin and one older) were so loud. Then they found out she needed grommets, and the difference was amazing. In no time at all she was happy, smiling, much more chatty - and her brothers quietened down. The boys had got used to shouting at her because she couldn't hear!

I thought GS was having his op in the Nuffield hospital I was in, but its the one in Leeds. He saw the consultant at the York one, but perhaps they don't do that operation in York. He goes for his pre op assessment next Thursday .
