    Osteopenia

    Does anyone have this?

"The stage before osteoporosis is called osteopenia. This is when a bone density scan shows you have lower bone density than the average for your age, but not low enough to be classed as osteoporosis. Osteopenia does not always lead to osteoporosis. It depends on many factors."

I had a bone density scan a while ago, and looking at my records online today (heaven forbid they should actually contact me with these results!!) I see there is something new on the neck of femur and it is osteopenia.

I will have to increase my calcium, and when I am able to and walk more as weight bearing exercise is good for strengthening the bones. Sadly it is a long time since I have been able to do much of that. Anastrozole, the drug, I am on leaches calcium for the bones (hence the density scans) so this isn't much of a surprise really.

Whether I will need calcium supplements of infusions I will wait to hear!

Gem, how complicated. It always seems that one excellent treatment (in your case Anastrozole) upsets other parts of the body. I do hope osteopenia doesn't progress to osteoporosis.

Gem, a friend in the flat has cancer of the pancreas, she is doing amazingly well considering, only she has the calcium problem from the treatment, medicines etc, she had a scan only last week and will get the results this coming week.

I know a couple of people on calcium tablets.
Mam had bone density scans many many years ago,she had osteoporosis.
            Never heard of osteopenia though.

B has Osteoporosis through his cancer treatment and his spinal injuries and is taking Alendronic acid he takes once a week but has been told he needs stronger meds now,
My niece who is only 54 has Osteopenia but they are only monitoring it at the moment with a low dose of meds ,
To be honest when she told us none of us had heard of it we all looked it up on Mr Google 😁

Hopefully when your able to get on your feet walking properly this will help .
Its so frustrating when these things pop their ugly heads up isn’t it .
