Scarlet Fever

Plant, was it routine to send scarlet fever patients to hospital? I'm sure I remember friends having it and being in hospital. Doctors today don't even encourage 'chicken pox' parties, and remembering how poorly my GS2 was with it, I think they're right. I can remember having measles when I was about 5. And not long after, whooping cough followed by bronchitis. I can imagine my parents were quite worried!

I've read somewhere that they are thinking of giving preventative antibiotics to children in schools where there have been out-brakes.

Plant, I can remember my brother and I being sent to play with my friend when she had mumps. Neither of us got it!

Grauntie, I dreaded my sons getting Mumps, as neither OH nor me has had it, and neither had my other who lived with us. I worked out if it went the maximum incubation period it would take nearly 6 months for the house to be Mumps-free! Ironically, after my mum had moved back to where she used to live she caught it. I think she was 82!

Gem, it was very serious in those days, wasn't it.
