    Wash your hands!!

The main message we can all take from the Coronavirus threat is that washing our hands properly and regularly, along with avoiding anyone in public places who is coughing, is the best precaution we can take.

I imagine all of us here wash our hands frequently and know the risks. It has made me wash my hands more often however.
When I come in I now wash my hands straight away, wherever I have been.
Often the first thing I do when I come in is go to the loo. If I was doing that, or preparing food my hands would get washed. If not, they wouldn't straight away. Now it's the first thing I do. It's a good habit for us to have. As a health expert was saying today other viruses including the horrible Noravirus can get onto our hands so washing as soon as we get home, or anywhere else that it is possible, is wise.

Gem - I can't bear my hands to feel dirty or sticky, so I always wash my hands when I get home. I don't mind getting them dirty gardening or somethings, it's just that 'unwashed' feel I don't like. But I am making sure I wash them for a bit longer, and also trying not to touch my face.

I'm thinking of it as more of a 'practice' in case the virus really spreads throughout the population.

My DIL2 was saying hand sanitiser has disappeared of the shelves of Boots, pharmacies and the supermarkets. Fortunately I had an unopened bottle which I've given her for the shop. It's all very well people telling us to use it, but the shelves need stocking!

Not touching my face is the hardest thing, I hadn't realised how often I touch it.

We’re the same. The first thing we do when we come in is give our hands a good hot wash. We are also trying to avoid touching stair rails, etc just in case. We popped into the supermarket this morning and I was very aware of just how dirty the trolly handle could be, had a little bottle of hand sanitiser in my bag so used that too.

I have always as long as I can remember washed my hands as soon as I come home , especially if I have been pushing a trolly ,
The amount of times I have seen people sneeze into their hands then hold the trolly is too many to count ,

If I have had to go to a public toilet I always open the doors with a tissue never put my clean hands on the handle .

My daughter is almost 47 and I can remember when she was a baby I used to have a damp cloth in a tub with a drop of Dettol on and would wash the high chair tray and seat down before I put her in if we went into a café ( I have always been a bit germ phobic )

I think its common sense most of the time isn't it .

Washing hands is normal practice for us, always has been.
Oma, we do that as well when we use public loos.
Every bag i own, has a bottle of hand sanitiser in.

Spotted this “recipe” for hand sanitiser. Lots of variations if you google it.

Vodka, aloe gel, and essential oils are all you need for this DIY gel. 60% must be alcohol.
                ...
                1. Plain vodka (a cheap brand is fine!)
                2. Aloe vera gel.
                3. Lavender essential oil.
                4. Tea tree essential oil.
                5. Other essential oils of your choice. Lavender and peppermint also make a great combo, if the scent of tea tree oil is too strong.
                6. Small 1-2 oz bottle.

It needs to be 60% vodka apparently. Not to be used on babies!

Interesting Shem! (Nice to see you btw )
Not sure how OH will feel about me taking her Grey Goose vodka.....

Apparently there is no hand sanitiser to be had in shops! I have a couple of small bottles so if I cant get more I will have to hang onto those for the plane journeys.

Shem - what a good idea. Thank you for the recipe.

I think supermarket trolley handles must be a prime way to pass on any germs. I've sometimes seen people wiping them with baby wipes or similar. I wonder if that helps?

I'm not particularly worried about germs generally, but I do try to avoid using the door handles in public loos. You see so many people going in and out without even a quick wash of their hands. Ughhhhh!
