Resting my wrist as much as possible made a lot of difference. As it had improved so much the Dr suggested I try with a splint for a couple of weeks and see if it improves more. He made me an appointment for a couple of weeks time. If it is fine I can cancel the appointment but if it isn't I can have the injection then.
I can't tell if it is improving generally or just because I'm using it so much less. I intend to start using at more to 'test' it so I know.

Splint might help but go back if it doesn't , I have a bright pink splint moulded to my fingers im supposed to wear at night to keep my fingers from bending with the arthritis but I gave up on it as it didn't seem to do much good , but that's just me you might find it does you good ,
Trying to not use it must be a pain in the bum I bet you forget lots of times till you get that shooting pain xxxx
Gem - I think it's easy for the doctors to say 'rest it', but that makes all sorts of things difficult for you. I sometimes wonder if doctors realise what busy lives us grannies often have - you certainly have a lot of commitments with a lot of people depending on you.
If the splint helps, all well and good, but I agree, it's wise to use it as normally as you can, because that's what you need to be able to do.

I agree Daisy. I can't continue to drive one handed indefinitely!
it's very hard not using it Oma.
Unless there is further improvement with the splint I will ask for the injection at that next appointment.

I had the injection this morning.
It was getting worse again, and with OH's broken wrist I am having to do even more driving.
It was very painful, but he didn't numb it, which in one way is good as I don't have to wait for that to wear off.
He said rest it as much as I can today, and I have taken a couple of painkillers. I will be doing my Mum's shopping one handed!
Hopefully in day or two it will be a lot better.

Gem - I hope you get some improvement from the pain now, although as you say resting it is harder than usual, and having to drive to your mum's and your sister's today isn't ideal. Is a take away on the cards for tonight to save either of you having to cook? xx
