    Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

    Has anyone suffered from this?
My mum has, with both hands I think but the injections sorted it out for her and she has had no recurrence for many years.
I know some people need surgery, and exercise and a splint at night can help too.

For a while now I have had occasional sharp shooting pains in my wrist and down my arm, and a lot of pain in my hand especially when doing certain things. Some mornings it aches badly when I wake up. I am trying hard to avoid using that hand when possible. It does improve a bit with rest, but isn't going away. It hurts when I turn the steering wheel which is a problem as my week always involves a lot of driving.
When I made my online appointment to have the blemish near my knee checked I noticed an appointment with my own GP, who I can never see, had come up. Although it was a month ahead I took it before someone else did.
If things improved I could just cancel the appointment.
Well, I will definitely keep it, it is later this month.

Best to get it checked out Gem. Could it be repetitive strain injury? I get that a lot when I’ve been doing lots of crochet or knitting. Either way, good idea to see doc.

Well, Enfys it could be. I forget to mention in my post that resting it on my laptop to type is painful and I am on here a lot!

I hope you can get some relief Gemini. I can never see my own doctor unless I take appts at least two weeks ahead, he is lovely, takes his time so makes him very popular.

I had mine done many, many years ago Gem! The injections do work, but over time become less effective. Before the op, I had a wrist splint which I wore overnight and sometimes during the day. DO you have a little cushiony thing to rest your wrist on when you're on the computer ? That might help too. Be warned though, if you do have the op( which is not a serious one) you won't be able to drive for several weeks. Well I wasn't able to anyway! Do you keep dropping things as well as having pain?Hope you get it sorted.

WG, I sometime use a rolled up pair of socks to rest my wrist on when on the laptop

My OH had an op on her thumb a few years ago for osteoarthritis and couldn't drive for 6 weeks, so I am prepared for that if I do end up with an op.

Its well woth keeping the appointment Gems imo,my 2nd DGS had the operation done on both of his wrists/thumb 2 yrs ago he had both wrists done 6 weeks apart and was off work for 3 mths he is an engineer and works with his hands,he had splints for a few weeks then a support bandage he is fully recovered now and is free from the pain.
I have occassional pain down my thumb it is sort of similar to cramp and is uncomfortable for a while then it just seems to go I have not seen my Doctor about it as yet but must mention it soon as it is happening more often.

Gem, no experience of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, but sometimes when doing certain things,my fingers seem to lock for a few seconds.

Anyway, best for you to have it checked.

No pins and needles so far WG. I leant on it slightly by mistake today and it hurt so much!
Anything I do with my left hand causes me pain. Although right handed there are so many things I use my left hand for , opening jars for one.

Carpal tunnel ops were done quite often as a minor ops where I worked though they took longer than the others! 40 minutes and then the patient had to lie down for about 30 minutes to rest. I guess they had stronger anaesthetic. It will get you out of the washing up for six weeks so a definite positive!

OH was diagnosed with CTS & was referred to the physio. She gave him splints to wear at night & it's worked wonders. Sorry to hear you're in pain.
