    Anyone heard of salivary stones?

I went to the dentist on Friday to see the hygienist. I've tried wearing a gum shield since my jaw popped when I eas out eating a while ago. I said I wore it for 2wks but it made my jaw joint even worse.

She got the dentist in to see me & after a thorough but uncomfortable examination by him he wants to refer me to the dental hospital in Sheffield. He wants to rule out a salivary stone. I've never heard of it....have any of you?

Looking at Dentist Google the majority of them are under the tongue but he wants to check if there's one in my jaw joint region. Hey ho.

OH had them Nana, it required a minor outpatient op. Hers were just behind her ear.

LOL behind her ear accessed via the mouth I mean Below is probably more accurate.

I have heard of them Nana, but don't know anyone who has had them.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

B has had a few removed about 3 I think or may be 4 , as Gem said a small procedure he was told they could come back but that was several years ago now and so far no sign ,
I would imagine if they in the jaw region they could cause a problem , B had them in the very back of his lower mouth and gum area
Im not fat just 6ft too small

I've never heard of them, Nana, but if that's the cause of the problem it sounds as though there is a fairly simple solution, even if it does mean a minor op. Let us know how you get on.

Nana, I have never heard of them, wonder if it is a calcium build up.

Thanks everyone. As usual you don't hear of these ailments until they're pointed out to you. Plant they are similar in nature to kidney stones etc in their makeup I believe. Fancy S & B having them. I knew someone on here would know about them. Glad they're ok now. As usual I'll not get concerned before it's confirmed that that's what it is.😕

Yes, best not get ahead of yourself Nana, you may not have them
OH was still working then, and went to the small hospital near where she worked. She said it was just a small wire type thing passed into the duct, via the mouth, with local anaesthetic.

That's good to know tho Gem. I hope the appointment/referal doesn't take long as my jaw area has been really sore since the dentist proded & poked. Naughty dentist.🤣
