It was funny Gem yesterday as my OH said something in a low voice behind me. I said 'I heard that' to which he said he'd have to be more careful what he said now.😉😂

Thanks Plant. Like anything else that's new they will take some getting used to. Amazing change in technology. The audiologist programmed the digital aids on his computer. They're small too."Good friends help you to find important things when you have lost them....your smile, your hope, and your courage."

Nana - just catching up with this thread with great interest.
OH has recently got hearing aids. He went to the doctors for a BP check and mentioned his hearing was getting worse. The doctor referred him to Specsavers - he got an appointment within a couple of days and came out with two NHS aids. He's had them about 6 or 7 weeks now and wears them most days (sometimes he forgets). The audiologist said to try the NHS ones first as for his relatively mild hearing loss they will probably be fine. So far, so good, although when I dropped something on the kitchen work surface last week he nearly jumped through his skin! He keeps telling me not to shout - but I've got used to having to!
I know my hearing isn't great either, so I'm going to get it checked.
I hope you get used to your quickly, Nana."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

Thanks Daisy. It's quite weird to be honest. Opening a pkt of crisps is a horrendous noise. We've joked about squeaky floorboards before but the noise is something totally alien. Telly volume down tho & (the same as you) I've had to tell OH to speak softer. 🤣"Good friends help you to find important things when you have lost them....your smile, your hope, and your courage."

Well done Nana , keep at it im sure they are a great help , can you adjust the volume ? They are so much smaller than they used to be ,
I wish B would admit his hearing is worse but he said hes fine
Martin his brother had a massive operation on his ear last year they had to take the side of his scalp off to get to it, He had a hole in his ear that went through to his brain and he could even hear his eye balls moving so weird They sorted it but now he's deaf in that ear ,
When him and B are together what with him being deaf in one ear B having Tinitus and bad hearing the conversations sometimes are like a comedy sketch
Even worse if they among a lot of people hahahaIm not fat just 6ft too small

Nana, when OH got hers she said the sound of a crisp packet opening was terrible! She was advised to wear hers as much as possible from the start. She did and soon all the loud noises sounded normal.“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

Gem - my OH was advised to wear his straight away too. What I can't understand is, if the crisp packet noise is so bad, why does my OH make a bag of crisps sound like an approaching express train!!! He must the the noisiest operator of a crisp packet in the world!
Oma - I can just imagine the conversations - not so much Chinese whispers, more of an "Open All Hours" comedy sketch!!!

Oma you do make me laugh. Martin's op' sounds like a horror movie. I always think the brothers are like the Chuckle brothers....'to me...to you..'.& that's without hearing problems.😂
I couldn't be bothered 15 mins + 15 the next day etc & started wearing them from when I get up to going to bed. Oma the audiologist set them to an automatic setting as they're digital. I have no way to control the volume. I can't imagine what it will be like when the GC are in the car.🙉

I don't have a volume control just a control to cut out some of the background noise in a crowed and a male voice telling me the battery needs changing. When I get my car I am going to make an appt. as I don't think they are set loud enough.
That must be very funny Oma when the brothers get together. What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

I think a man's voice coming from nowhere would make me jump Plant. I think he (the audiologist) says mine plays a tune. You do right to go back if they're not set correctly for you."Good friends help you to find important things when you have lost them....your smile, your hope, and your courage."
