    Hearing aids.

I am going for hearing aids tomoro. Both my brother & sister already wear them. I've noticed I ask for the tv volume to be turned up, asking people to repeat what they've said etc. If people turned away when they speak I had no idea the difficulty I had if I can't lip read.

The 'audio girl' said some people settle to them straight away, others don't. My siblings are an example of that. Sis got on fine but brother found them irritating...as in how many sounds flooded his hearing.

I have the choice of one or both to start with. I thought one to get used to it but my sister suggested two as when the time comes to get my 2nd my brain would have to relearn all over again. Has anyone on here got hearing aids? I'd be grateful of your experience. Thanks.

My OH has one for each ear Nana and got on fine. Some things ( like a crisp packet rustling) sounded incredibly loud at first, but if you wear them all the time your brain adjusts and everything sounds fine.

My mum on the other hand would not persevere, never wore them for even one full day, and we all have to shout!
    Good luck with yours!

I went totally deaf for a while. Probably a virus. The first thing I noticed with hearing aids was the birds singing. They were a great help for a few months but then my hearing came back! I had two straight away.

I have aids, one ear is worse than the other but I wear both as advised by the supplier. Everything does sound louder but your brain does adjust to that. Persevere with them is my advise.

I wear hearing aids in both ears, bought mine from Boots and they have made a huge difference . Couldn't be without them now, found them fiddly to start with but now it's part of my morning routine.

If I needed them I would get them , I keep telling B he needs them he wont admit his hearing is getting worse ,
Mind you he has Tinitis and its a certain pitch he cant hear ,
Drives me mad repeating myself and if we in shops and he's not next to me looking at my face he's constantly saying "What " when I speak

            Hope they help Nana

Thanks everyone. I will ask for two & will persevere with them. Libra & Plant was there any reason you bought yours rather than have NHS ones? Hope you don't mind me asking.

Gem your really made me smile about your mum. My mum was convinced that putting in hearing aids would block out the sound & she wouldn't hear anything.😉😂

OH has NHS one, which are fine. My auntie didn't get on with NHS ones so has private.
It's worth trying the NHS ones first. Not only are they free, the batteries, which only last a week or so, are free too.

Boots were convenient and no waiting for NHS appointments, that was the main reason. I thought my hearing was bad in my left ear, turns out both ears were low. The only time I don't have them in is when I am with M and T 😁

                    Thanks.

I did wonder about the noise volume with my GC. The noise in the car was enough to 'make your ears bleed' as they say😂 Also I'm concerned that one of the symptoms of ME is noise sensitivity. I'll talk it over with the audiologist when I go.

Mam wears one, refuses wear two. Says wearing two doesn't make any difference.
Dad, flatly refuses to wear his, saying they irritate him.

My previous aids made my ears itch after a time but I have new ones, supposed to be new technology and they are fine, don't know I have them in.

Got my two hearing aids today & I chose silver. Now much smaller & the tiny buds fit inside your ear so you don't see them. He said I have to wear them for 15mins today then an extra 15 mins daily until I wear them all day. They feel ok. Sound resonates in the worse ear but he said I'd get used to them.

                            Thanks for your help everyone.

I don't notice OH's Nana, even when I'm near to her. If she doesn't hear what I say I often ask if she has them in as I can't tell! No one seems to notice and several people have been surprised to know she has them.
