We have talked about this before , but had to tell you this one ,
We went to Morrisons today and I bought a Turnip and its shrink wrapped
Now since when did a Turnip need a plastic wrap ?

Since Morrisons found they lasted longer and so could be stored longer by them, making their logistics easier!!!

It makes me very cross supermarkets shrinkwrap fruit and veg which store well anyway!

Supermarkets are promising to tackle the plastic problem then they do this Daisy its madness ,
I wish now I hadn't bought it and just waited till I went to the Green grocers ,
I'm a bit cross at myself for buying it to be honest

Oma - I've done exactly the same - about a week ago with a cucumber. It was in an outer wrap and I didn't notice the shrink wrap till I went to use it. I was really cross with myself.

I've started to complain (nicely - it's not the cashiers' fault) when there are only prepacked things like apples, carrots, potatoes, whatever.

Maybe we should unwrap these things and drop the wrappers off at the cash till to make a point?!

Barmy, isn't it Oma. i like that you call them turnip, like we do.
We never call them by the proper name of swede.
The last turnip i bought, needed pneumatic drill to cut it.
              Now,i buy frozen diced swede.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

When I was a child it was always turnip. Sometime over the years it became swede!!!

I think they used to be grown for animal feed, didn't they. So it was probably when we started to eat them!!!

Swede here, family loves it. My MIL who was a farmers DD wouldn't eat it, she called it cattle food.
