    FUN!

Please can anyone tell me what has happened to the word FUN? All of a sudden we have the ‘funnest’ thing, things which are ‘so fun’, things which are ‘funner’than others...I despair!

GM, that brings up a pet hate of mine. Why does everyone under a certain age answer a question with “So...”. Why? Or should I say “so why?” ?

I said a few weeks ago our language is changing ,
Give it a few years and the text talk kids use now will be common practice as will the spelling ,
Look how our English language has changed over the passing of time , its evolving again isn't it

Oma, that reminds me of a French lady who taught French to DD2 through play on a Saturday. She finished every sentence with ‘isn’t it’. I never found out why. She must have understood what she was saying, she was fluent in English!

I hate the "I'm good" that young people use when asked how they are. My GD2 is studying Linguistics at University, not sure where it will take her, she is looking at a Broadcasting College for another two years but needs to take a year off to earn some money. So with a year off after finishing school, 4 years at University, including a year in Canada, if she takes another year off and then 2 years at a Broadcasting College, that's eight years and a loan of nearly 80 thousand. I am very proud of her, she works in local restaurant during her breaks and buys most of her clothes in charity shops, she also has a lovely boyfriend who hails from Yorkshire.

Text speak really annoys me.My kids always say why do you write all text messages in full.
Now hubby is getting in on the act. He sent me a text last week, and i had to decipher it.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

GM - I remember when I first knew OH a lot of his Welsh friends said 'isn't it' even if they were saying something like 'shall we go to the cinema, isn't it'. I don't hear it in Wales these day though, but I think a lot of local accents and dialects are dying out, which I think is a pity.

Plant - I think Linguistics is really interesting - I did a bit, it was a module in something I was studying, and I wished I'd had time and opportunity to study it more. Good luck to your GD - she obviously knows what she wants to do and is prepared to work hard to get there.

Don’t even get me started on when a customer goes into a cafe and asks the person behind the counter
                    “Can I get a coffee “
If you are going to ‘get’ a coffee the cafe becomes self service surely?

Mimi - the 'like' is because I agree with you, not because I like 'can I get a coffee'!!
