    IKEA Grrr

Went to Ikea this morning , before we went shopping we popped into the Café for a drink .
Paid put change in my purse and then went for what I wanted .
Got to the main checkout handed over the money and there was a £5 note in that I had received with my change from the café ,
I knew it was from there as I only had £20's in my purse ,
Anyway the cashier refused to take it as it was a old £5, so off I went to Customer service to complain ,
The girl there rang the office to be told that it must have been handed over by another customer them handed to me so they couldn't help ,
Not thinking I said well I will have to take it to the bank and came out .

On the way home I then realised , hang on a minute , if they had accepted it without checking then gave it to me technically it WAS their fault

So when I got home I contacted head office by live chat ,
They couldn't give a toss , my fault for accepting it apparently , I should have checked now who checks there £5 notes you check you have the right change but not if the note is new or old

A strong email is winging its way to them but I know they wont reply ,
I'm furious I will take it to the bank but shouldn't have too,

Well you can imagine what B said he doesn't like the place in the first place

Let them have it in that email Oma! This is so unfair. They should have exchanged it for you, in the name of customer service, even if they were not convinced that it came from their store, as it did.

Well what a cheek, the cashier should have spotted it when they gave it to you.

The cashier should have noticed it, when she/he got it from a previous customer.

Another reason for B not liking the place.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Well two things one is that yesterday I went into the bakers in our local high street and the older lady in there got all agitated because she found three Roy d pound coins in there. One of the other older ladies pointed out they been in there all morning so what was she making a fuss for? First older lady got quite snotty and in a very “I am the boss”voice told second lady to mind her own business and remove the illegal pounds IMMEDIATELY. Second lady rolled her eyes in an exaggerated way. I wanted to stay to see if there was a punch up but as I was the only customer in the shop I thought it might be obvious

Second thing is that years ago when we still had the shop we had a lean week and I went to the building society next to our shop and got some money out to pay into the business current account. I crossed the road to the bank on the opposite corner and when I got to the till the cashier refused to take the £300 (an awful lot of money 22years ago) in the grounds the notes were fake. I told her I had just got them from the building society over the road but she wouldn’t budge. Luckily the assistant manager, who we knew as he had recently ordered something from us, came over and I explained. He walked to the building society with me and although they did not want to he made them change the money!!!

there is no reason (according to some chap on BBC the other day) for shops to refuse to take the odd one as the bank will change them with no charge or fuss.

you go get em tomorrow Oma......

I was going to suggest you post on ikea's Facebook page but you would just be one of a number of complainants! Their customer service seems to be somewhat lacking!

Oh no !! hubby been down to H&M this morning to stock up on his supply of cat food for Oliver he was the only customer in the store as they had only just opened, when he got home he turned out his jeans pockets to put his change in the tray as usual and he found a round £ coin in his change he will ofcourse give it back next time he goes but surely the staff should take care of their till change and know what they should be doing.

Some stores are still accepting them Glam as they say it was too short notice for people to get rid
But you would think like Ikea when they received them they shouldn't be handed back out again

There's no excuse for the lousy customer service from Ikea! No matter what the rights and wrongs are (and in this case Oma, the customer, was right!) they should accept the old money and take it out at the end of the day when they cash up, ready to go to the bank to be changed.

Part of the trouble, I think, is that it costs businesses a lot of money to handle cash (whether it's paying into the bank or using security firms etc). My DS2's business is very tiny and they don't pay in coins at all - they just keep them as 'float' and sometimes they have lots of change and sometimes very little. But being their own business they can do that - a big company like Ikea has to have rules which all the staff have to follow. They will just take out any old £1 coins and keep them on one side until one of them visits the bank and changes them.
