Difficulty of getting a simple form!

My annual BP review is due. I confess I'm not very good about going for these, I tend to put them off until I can't any more as they stop you ordering your prescriptions until you have it!
My GP surgery is close to where I lived for over 30 years. I could walk there. Now it is 4 miles away from where I live, with no free parking. When I need a blood test before the review I prefer to to go Asda. Closer to home , free parking, no appointment needed. That way I only drive into town and pay for parking once, at the review, instead of twice.
The reminder letter you are sent from the surgery clearly states that if you require a blood form, to have your blood taken at either the hospital or Asda, just call in and collect a form.
I did that last week, only to be told that it wouldn't be available until a nurse signed it. Of course no nurses were there.

So, as I will be passing close by there this afternoon bringing GS1 from school, I phoned this morning to ask if they could have one ready for me to collect, either this afternoon, or tomorrow.
The receptionist checked and no form was there for me, which I didn't expect there to be really. She then asked what tests should be on the form!
I said it was my BP review, but that I didn't know which tests were to be done, that was down to the Dr or nurse! I suggested she asked a nurse about it.
She then said she had found it on my notes and would ask a nurse to do it.
Honestly. Maybe I should just take my own blood and drop it of!!!

I have to have a blood test before I have my next injection for my bones, not sure if it will be the practice nurse or they have a nurse comes to surgery once a week from I know not where, fingers crossed it happens. This is the first injection for my bones at the surgery, previously the local hospital have done it and I have to remind the surgery to order the injection and make sure I arrange the blood test, it seems vital that I have one two weeks before and two weeks after.

I do think the NHS is wonderful, but I wish they could streamline their paperwork and admin. It sounds so complicated, Gem, Oma and Plant.

Our surgery doesn't do blood tests at all. You have to go to the local hospital (5 miles away) but the clinic is open from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm and you just walk in, take a ticket and they do it with no fuss or faffing about. Gem - our surgery gives you a blood test form for the following year when you have your annual checkup. This means that you can just take it along to the hospital clinic at your own convenience, and the results are often back as the surgery by the next working day, so you can then ring up and make an appointment.

The only downside is not knowing how long you will have to wait at the hospital. Most times I'm in and out in 10 minutes, but OH had to go for an x-ray and blood test yesterday. He got to the x-ray department when it opened at 9.30 (also walk-in), was out in less than half an hour and then had to wait for over an hour for his blood test!

Daisy, when I go for my review I will ask for a form for next time.
This is what OHs lovely oncologist does at her 6 monthly checks, gives her the form then she goes to Asda a few days before her next check up.

We can just turn up at the hospital too. Waiting times are usually long, and parking is to be paid for, so Asda is the best choice for us!

Gem - it seems a much better idea. I write the date on the top of the form and stick it in a file ready for the following year.

Never had to get a form for bloods for BP review! Bloods will get taken one week and the review usually done following week! Interesting how this are different in other areas isn't it? Our phlebotomist has it on her computer screen what tests need to be done, never thought about where the requests come from!

WG, if I have my bloods taken at the GPs the week before my review, as my mum does I don't need a form. They have my notes so know what tests I need.If you prefer to have it done at the hospital or Asda you have to have a form, or they don't know what to test for
