    Broadband charges.

We agreed to change from Virgin to BT yesterday. Rung Virgin today to cancel them.
They asked why we wanted to cancel. Told them, their prices were constantly going up.
They rang back later, saying that they don't like to lose loyal customers like us, and they have reduced our monthly payment by £25.
We have been with Virgin for 15 years, so we are staying with them.
Rang BT to cancel, as you have a 14 day cooling off period.

Good for you Nan2! I have heard of this sort of thing before, with Sky. Suddenly they find they can reduce their charges to keep you !

We thought about Plus net, before BT, but were told it isn't in our area, although a friend of ours who lives 3 streets away is on Plus Net.
          Not that it matters now.

We had a similar thing but with Insurance for the house. Nationwide out heirs up but a lot, I think forty quid a year and I punted around and got a quote for less than we were paying and same terms. When I went back to Nationwide they said they would match it. I told them to take a funny run because in my opinion if you can match it immediately like that it proves they have been taking the Micky. Mind you I changed again last year for the same reason. We are with Talk Talk for broadband and are happy with it, twenty quid a month. Problem with TT is when it is good it is very good but if something goes wrong they are a nightmare with their call centres not synchronising and you have to tell the same thing over and over.

I have done similar with. BtT Sky and Direct Line. Each one I have contacted to cancel as I was disappointed with their price increases, each one reduced my monthly contract to below the quotes of other companies.
BT also threw in a new hub and free BT sports (much to OHs delight) . We have found BT internet to be very good, in fact GC complain to mum and dad that our internet is far faster that theirs, they are with Sky .Saying that BTs customer service leaves a lot to be desired. It's far easier to chat on line than phoning them.
Sky offered us Sky Q and multi room at a reduced price
Direct Line has constantly reduced my yearly home insurance when due for renewal when I have informed them that I have had a lower quote.
Although I would leave any company at the drop of a hat if I could get a better quote with the same package as I have at present it makes sense to stay with the same company if I am happy with the service and they have lowered their prices, it saves a lot of faffing around as once the contract of the new suppliers have expired the prices are increased and again the whole rigmarole starts all over again!
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

I arrange a new contract every November with BT we have been with them for 9yrs now and we have a really good package, line rental/infinity BB/BTSports/box sets/everyday free calls up to 1hr/& security we pay no more than £42.00 per month, but I keep the phone cost to zero by never ever phoning mobiles if people want me urgently enough they can call me.All the Companies have a special department where they can reduce your costs you just have to be firm when you ring to cancel your original contract

Gemini it is totally my own fault as I just can't get the password right for some reason, the thing is I only use about 7/8 passwords and they are all written down in "the little black book" I have tried every combination of capitals and small case but no luck my youngest son set it up for me about 8yrs ago and he just happens to be on his hols in Egypt so he is neither use nor ornament is he ? all I need to do is keep my original email address as my paypal is set up for that or can you just apply for a new account and then update paypal with your new email address ? I am so non technical when it comes to this,I have put in the lap-top with the virus and the ProperGeeks man said he will reset it back to factory and install a super duper anti-virus which he can reinstall every 12mths for me total cost after clearing all the virus is £147.00 but it needs to be done

Glamma, if you set up a new yahoo email address, you can add it to your paypal account.

Zizi - I agree - they're taking the Michael! My car insurance was with Direct Line for years and then it suddenly shot up. When we asked why they couldn't really say, but there were adverts everywhere enticing new customers. I said if I was a new customer what would you quote me and was told a figure lower than I was then paying before the increase. So I asked why I couldn't have the same deal and they said it was just for new customers and if I left for a year and then came back they'd be able to give me a new customer discount! When I'd finished jumping up and down in disgust I went elsewhere and have never gone back to DL!

Glamm - I've got a Yahoo email account. I don't use it (I had to have one to use Flickr at one stage) but I've just reactivated it and was able to change my password, and reset my contact details as well. They even emailed the confirmation to my other email address. I hope you can get yours sorted out. I'm so glad your bugs have been zapped by your ProperGeek man.
