What is the point of a mobile phone if it is switched off??

Our lovely cat sitters are at our house this week.
We have 2 sets. A lady in her 70's, and 2 ladies, who are there this week. One in her 50's the other mid 60's, who sit together.
Knowing that the pair of sitters are not good at answering their phones and responding to texts, OH made a point of checking with them before we left which was the best phone to contact them on. The day after we arrived she sent a text to that phone just checking all was well there. Then she sent a 2nd text the following day. No response to either. I then emailed, and left a PM on Facebook. No replies. Our next plan, if we didn't hear anything, was to phone our own home and leave an answerphone message!
Yesterday OH had a reply saying all was well, and sorry this was the first time they had switched the phone on

When dad goes out shopping,he takes his mobile with him.He doesn't have it switched on though.A couple of times i have tried to ring him when mam has remembered
something she wants from the shops.
His excuse is, the mobile is only for if he gets in difficulty while he's out.
    It's senseless.

My OH has the same anti-mobile disease! He takes his phone out with him but doesn't switch it on unless he needs it to SAVE THE BATTERY! Then he switches it off again when he gets home, doesn't use it for several days and then can't believe that the battery is flat!! After many years of being on a contract with a company who hsas no reception here, he finally switched to one that does, but never leaves his phone on at home.

Oma - there is no logic!

OH is the same won't take his mobile phone out with him because, and I quote "I might loose it and anyway I won't turn it on to save the battery plus if I did have it turned on someone might ring " ?????? Is it me ??? I really don't understand that logic at all . He is more than happy for me to take mine out with me, apparently the running down of my battery and the threat that it might well ring is different for me ? Really? How?

On a a slightly different note, I brought dad a lovely black gents umbrella but he wouldn't take it out with him when it was raining because..... and again I quote...'It will get wet " Men !!

Love it. I am quite flustered when my mobile rings, I considered it is for my emergencies really.

My cousin used to leave her car in the garage whenever it rained. It used to irritate my dad for some reason.

The landline is still my first port of call if I need to contact anyone. I do cart my Mobile around with me and have it switched on but prefer to use my iPad for most other things.

And I thought my OH was the only one in the "save the battery" camp.
Once he went out and I made sure the phone was on.He was out longer than I expected so I tried to ring him to make sure he was okay. There was no answer. When he got back he said he'd heard it ringing but didn't answer because he was on the way home. How was I supposed to know

My hubby and batteries will be the death of me,I use rechargeable AAs for my camera and when ever they need recharging I just switch them on on the kitchen wall till I need them again,he just can't help switching them off so they are never fully charged when I come to use them, then he wonders why the air is blue when baby is here and I can't take any impromtu pictures of her.

My oh often forgets to charge it, or leaves it on night time mode so our children ring my phone and ask to speak to Dad!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one tearing my hair out with the lack of logic! Glamm - I'm in charge of batteries (hehe, see what I ddi there!) and I keep the charger in my desk. Although OH knows where it is he never uses it and always asks me for batteries - and often doesn't actually know what size he needs. He will say something like 'Oh, you know, it's one of those flat ones'!!

I know this isn't about mobile phones but it is in the 'switch everything off camp'
I arrived home from a long, busy days work looking forward to the stew that I had prepared in the morning. I had put everything in the slow cooker, turned it on and left for work and yes you guessed it...OH turned it off when he left the house 20 mins later because of his habit of turning every single thing off at the plug except for the fridge and freezer and I swear that's only because the plug sockets were at the back of the fridge and freezer hidden away from his view.
We had beans on toast for tea served with a stony silence !!!
