As you all know I am finishing my employment with St Vincents this month and have been having consultations with ASM regarding dates etc,well she has surpassed herself this time in forwarding me my notice period and financial settlement via e-mail I thought I would have at least been worthy enough of a face to face interview wouldn't you ? to cap it all she also wants a copy of my Passport for HR purposes proof of employment,has no one told HR I am leaving I wonder ? I have also been made responsible for getting the quotes for replenishing the shop
back to its original state prior to us opening 15yrs ago I'd have thought it was in her remite to sort this out not mine,I also wanted to buy all my ladies flowers as a thank you gift for all their had work and service to the Charity but she has said we don't have the budget to do it so I will have to fund that myself,I don't object to that but a contribution would have been gratefully received,it goes from bad to worse,

Glamma this is disgraceful. As you say, you deserved to be told about this in person, not by reading an email. It is so thoughtful of you to give the volunteers thank you flowers and I'm sure they will be appreciated. That you have to fund it all is so unfair.

I personally would send copy of my passport direct to HR with a note explaining why you have sent it because of losing your job , no need to explain about her just leave it at that. Cheek of the woman I would leave her with a good mouth full me then again she most likely won't show her face

That's awful. I agree with Oma, why on earth do they need your passport now and I certainly wouldn't do anything about the refurb. Deal with HR directly, don't bother with her any more. Good luck.

Glam, I agree with GM. Ring HR and ask them why they need your passport details when you're leaving? It sounds bizarre to me. As far as the refurb goes, have a look at your job description. I suspect there's no mentione of refurbing premises. Anyway, do you know what they were like 15 years ago. This refurb thing will be in the tenancy agreement, nothing to do with you at all.

I yhink ink the are behaving disgracefully and a chat with HR will confirm how much of this is down to her lady ship and how much is official.

I I hope your lovely volunteers find out that the flowers are the personal thank you from you, not the charity.

I agree with everyone else Glam. I know you don't want to leave on a sour note but I'd be inclined to do the bare minimum.

Glam the thing about the passport means that she has been lax in her position and is covering her own behind. It must have been three or four years ago that the law was issued to say that every employer had to establish beyond doubt that the employee has the right to work in the UK (i.e. A British passport saying that the holder has the right of abode & to work in the UK). I had to do this years ago after having worked for the company for years and every single employee or agency worker since then has to produce such documents these days prior to even starting work on my sites or in our offices.

Also Daisy is right, it is the company/charity estates management department who would be responsible for the refurb details. My guess is that they have made her responsible and she is passing it on. I would tell her to take a funny run personally.

As for dismissal via email well I just think that this person has no idea how to manage people. If she was a good manager she would have done it face to face however uncomfortable it was.

Re the giving of gifts (flowers) I must admit that my own company (a multi million pound international company) will not reimburse for flowers for any reason, sickness, birth, funerals or anything, it probably has something to do with tax or something but I don't know that for sure. We cannot claim expenses for coffee or food on trains/whilst travelling etc. unless we can prove we were on the road before 6am. Consequently nobody bothers to claim for anything catering related these days. If you have a company car (which I have) you cannot claim for things like oil, windscreen wash etc. unless it is part of a company paid for service. All of these are nice fat savings for the company which employs 55,000 people world wide.

Zizi Thanks so much for the in depth information I am sure you are right about her covering her back with the passport problem and that she is just dotting the "i"s so to speak,when she phoned me today to catch up on last weeks trade she asked me to send her the details of an Agency that I worked for when I was a New Homes Sales Negotiator as she thinks she would be good at the job and earn more money than she does now,the poor woman is delusional in my opinion
