    Counting to 10!!

One of DD2's friends has just stated on facebook that the ageing population is the cause of the NHS difficulties not immigrants! I nearly replied with an apology for .getting older and ask if she had any suggestions that would prevent the ageing process - though I am not willing to resort to euthanasia!

There was a rant on FB last week where someone was saying that our generation had it all and are preventing the younger generation from having what we had as in grant assisted uni education, low cost housing, gold plated pensions, visa free travel etc. I did not respond because I am not going to get into an argument about something I have never been able to control but I would dearly like to know how we had low cost housing when husband and I worked bruddy hard to pay a whacking great big mortgage and bring up three kids, I would like to know how many foreign holidays td young person had because we had none when we were bringing up the kids and running our business. I would also dearly love to know where my gold plated pension popped off to when I got to 60 having worked since I was 15 and have now another six years (well five and a half but who is counting) to work before I qualify for my pension. Rant over AND this has nothing what so ever to do with the referendum.

I wonder if said friend has to rely on the anyone from the ageing population for childcare in any way ?? I'm not so much speechless but so sorry this person is so ignorant to the need for us older people in society in general and to what an important role we play.

To say nothing of the Bank of Mum and Dad which so many of today's youngsters couldn't survive without!

                    Absolutely agree with you all.
Some people are very much head in the sand about the fact that they, if they will, if they are lucky, become 'the older generation'.

I did actually type out a very indignant response but then deleted it! No point in justifying our existence to someone that insensitive and ignorant. I suppose they look at house prices from the 60s/70s but don't realise we were probably earning per week what they earn in an hour!

Looking at this from another perspective though,it is true that the ageing population is increasing with it's inevitable demands on the Health Service.
However to imply that somehow it is our fault for living too long is unacceptable. We are the generation who have more than paid for our care and it is someone else's responsibility to cater for us.

I watched a tv prog'm about the elderly ....Some in their 90s. Sky diving, gym /sports champions combined with research. She aught to have watched it & then she wouldn't have made such negative comments.
