    Anyone else baffled by politics?

I don't know about anyone else, but I hadn't got a clue who to vote for in the last elections until the last minute. I don't know what's going on with 'stay in/leave the EU?' debate. Now when I see how far Donald Trump's got I get quite fearful. My DD2 was chatting about this over coffee the other day & she said that she watched a documentary about him & she said it literally left her feeling traumatised & worried for their 21mth old son's future. I reassured her that if he got into office that he can't just make decisions on his own.....choices aren't down to just one person are they? I didn't say it made me fearful if he were to be elected as President. I gave her space to express her fears & calmly reassured her the best I could.

I just can't believe how the people of the USA are supporting him. I don't know if anyone else on here feels the same as I do, but I'd be interested to know your opinions.

I agree Nana, he makes the wildest statements and then when he realises the public don't agree with his statements, he withdraws it. How can they possibly wrote for him.

I find him very strange indeed and think he is used to getting his own way due to the vast wealth he has, I would be surprised if he gets voted in,I'm sure that the powers who really run the government would have the last say but I just don't know and it is a scary thought if he gets elected, he seems to have a dislike for everyone doesn't he.

I agree too the man is a idiot , but if he did he wouldn't just be allowed to do as he likes , I heard somewhere recently Obama said he was the president of the USA and he couldn't do anything, so I assume there government members have a lot of power too .
As for our government we have no one with enough guts or foresight to run our country , Each one lies to get into power then back pedals on there promises , I don't trust any party

I am not a political animal. My mother 87, really is. She adores Question Time! She and I are on opposing 'sides' so I try not to discuss it with her too much, as in her eyes her way is the only way.
I need to read up a lot more about the leaving the EU issue , as I don't feel at all qualified to make a decision.

Nana, I have several American friends and none of them are supporting Trump. They are as horrified about it all as we are.

I think the Donald Trump phenomenon is not confined to the USA. It seems that people all over Europe and even here in the UK are voting in people who would not have been considered a few years ago. Jeremy Corbyn is another example of this. Also many EU Countries are voting for the extreme right or the extreme left leaving those in the middle with 'moderate' views behind. Donald Trump appeals to the 'left behinds' - the blue collar workers that don't think they are getting a fair crack of the whip so to speak. There is a lot of general dissatisfaction everywhere these days for many reasons and when the people are unsettled/dissatisfied and, in many cases, fed up with the regular politicians who don't seem to care about anything other than lining their own pockets then that is when people turn to someone that seems different. DT could get in in the USA in the same way that everyone was surprised when Jeremy Corbyn was voted in here. The world is turning into a very odd place - or am I just getting old!!

I'm baffled by our own politics, never mind American politics.

All over my head I'm afraid I leave that to the husband,he's a political animal. Ive seen and heard Trump and if the USA vote him in,then heaven help them. He comes across as a sexist, homophobic, racialast. Horrid little man.

Obama was blocked at every turn by the Houe of Representatives, a bit like the House of Lords, which was full of republicans. Now they are saying he was hopeless because of his skin colour and nothing to do with them! Can't imagine a country led by Trump. It would be like the Wild West on steroids. I know my US friends are very concerned. Does seem nowadays that rather than voting because you are in favour of one party you are voting because you are scared of what another might do. Politicians should have to work in the real world for ten years before they can stand. Most now, on both sides, are wildly out of touch with real life.

I know the world's a rotten place in so many respects, but heaven help us if Trump wins the presidential election! He'd have his finger on the red button.
