    Sky box broken

Our damned Sky Plus box is broken. This is the second time. Admitedly the first was several years ago. Each time it happens you have to reset and you lose all your recorded programmes. We always have quite a lot to watch, so I'm not happy.
I'm even less happy about losing the CBeebies recording of GDs 3rd birthday greetings which I sent in for her. I had that on Keep, so it couldn't be deleted. Once you reset all is lost though.
There is nothing we can do about it however.
A new improved Sky box with extra features will be winging it's way to us next week.

The downside to technology. My internet went down for an hour or two earlier this evening and my printer won't work. It says there is some kind of failure despite acknowledging that the new black ink was genuine. I am going to unplug everything when I go to bed and hope that it sorts itself out overnight#!!

Shem - it's often a good solution - turn it all off and let it rest for a few hours.

Gem, how annoying to lose programmes and recordings you really wanted to keep. I wonder what extra features your new all-singing all-dancing Sky Box will offer you.

I wonder what is wrong with technology this week my newest laptop wouldn't connect to internet (still won't) so I had to fish out my old one and hey presto instant loading I have tried the other one twice and no joy !! well why is that ? as the signal is the same for both of them and the tablet loads up OK,could it be possible I have a virus on the new one but not on the one I am using at present,I don't have time to sit and wait for BT to talk me through it so am asking my trusty friends son to call in to-morrow ggrrr.

Glamm - did you get your new laptop sorted out? I've been wondering what the problem could be, so would be interested to know.

We bought a new printer today so now got to learn how to use it. Wish they would provide a book you can look through instead of doing it all online. My laptop was completely overloaded as I hadn't emptied the cache (?) for ages. Everything is much harder since I put Windows 10 on. Nothing is in the right place. I would happily pay for a service where they just left everything alone and didn't keep "improving" things! Technology, smechtology I say!

The Sky box is here! It arrived yesterday but we haven't had time to look at it yet.

Shem I agree! I haven't put Windows 10 on my laptop as it is nearing the end of its life so can't see the point! I hate change and I had having to look onlinne for instructions!!

Shem - I agree. All the constant 'improvement' and extra features I don't want or need would drive me mad. Windows 10 must be more straightforward though, because OH has hardly asked for help with his computer since he upgraded to 10. Apple don't seem to have the same urge to change everything all the time, which suits me fine.

I'm having a love/hate relationship with my Lenovo laptop & Windows 10. Mobile playing up too....beeps, vibrations, going off constantly & haven't even changed the settings. Said to OH that I felt like throwing it across the room. He said I wouldn't do anything like that. Guess what, the next time it went off for no reason I threw it. The look on OH's face was priceless. I did aim for the carpet tho'. Still working so it was a wasted exercise. What is it that makes technology so frustrating?😱

Great when they work but frustrating when they don't

Nana - I grow horns if I have to use a laptop. I gave mine to my OH! I think what makes technology so frustrating is the rate of change and that in the race to sell more companies make them 'cleverer' with things most of us don't need.

I totally agree Daisy. I was so happy when I used my little Acer with Windows XP. OH bought me this Lenovo laptop/notebook or whatever it''s called...then Windows 10 came along & then that's when it all went haywire. I know I aught not to grumble and be grateful as it was quite expensive. I wish that I could just go back to my easy to use Acer. Boo hoo.

Nana - for what it's worth, I think Microsoft peaked with Windows XP - none of the versions I've seen/used since has been as good! I have to admit I wouldn't go back to Windows having had a Mac for a few years.

Daisy, I think my problem with technology stems from not having been taught/grown up with it. I had to smile the other day as my GS2 (he's not yet two) was sitting on my lap & I was showing him a picture on my mobile of his cousin. He reached out & flicked the next picture on. Not satisfied with that he wanted to see more so flicked the pictures on at a rapid rate. Is there any hope for me I ask myself?

Nana - that made me smile! My DS1 has a theory that in a couple of generations babies will be born with thumbs as long as their index fingers because that's what most youngsters use on their electronic devices!
