Praise for our local Boots optician

I broke the arm off my varifocals. I lent on them when they were beside me on the sofa. The arm was then wonky for few days and finally fell off. It fell off in the cafe at the leisure centre and neither I nor my friends could find it.

Forward a few days and I took them to Boots opticians to ask if they could repair them. I told them I couldn't find the screw.
I waited quite a while for my glasses to be seen to. It was the school summer holidays and the shop busy so that was OK.

Then an assistant came to ask if I had the one year insurance cover. I told her I took it out but I was sure that it wasn't valid any more as I have had the glasses more than a year (possibly 2 years)
She went away again and came back with another young lady, who said she would get me new pair of frames as it wasn't really repairable. It turned out that this was the manager.
She found the frames to match mine, fitted my lenses into those, and brought them back. She was so polite and helpful and no charge at all. I was very impressed.
They could tell I had bought my glasses from Boots as they are Boots frames At no point did anyone ask my name though so they had no idea I had had the insurance at all, let alone whether it had run out.

I consider that very good customer service

Well done Boots! Praise where praise is due but unfortunately good service should be the norm and not something that is especially noteworthy.

Ha! I wish I could say the same. I lost a screw from my Boots sunglasses. I took them back to the store I purchased them from. The person on reception argued the point that I had bought them from Boots, then said they looked older than two years.I pointed out that I had been told by the optometrist to wear them whenever I went outside as it would slow down the growth of my cataract. Eventually, with intervention from another member of staff, they were repaired free of charge. I will never buy frames from Boots again. Luckily we have an independent optometrist who is happy to sell cheaper frames or put new prescription lenses into existing frames cheaper than Boots.

I suppose good service often comes down to the person immediately in front of the customer, and how they respond. I've had similar excellent service at Specsavers at one branch, but less good at another. Grauntie, I think you must have drawn the short straw that day.

I think a lot depends on the individual branch and the manager .
