This brickbat is for Morrison's.
I ordered food from them for my birthday. Some sandwich and wrap platters and small cakes. OH collected them for me that morning and all was OK with that.
As she was picking up the party food order that morning (I was at aquafit) she decided to order a birthday cake for me which she would collect at the same time. This was personalised with my name and age.
I was unaware of this until OH took an 8 am phone call on my birthday. This was to inform her that the cake would not be delivered, due to some strike at some point along the line. She was angry and upset.
They told her she was welcome to a choose a cake off the shelf! This was not the point, she wanted the one she had ordered. I am a strange person who does not like chocolate cake so she had made sure to order one that wasn't.
When she went to the store there were only chocolate birthday cakes available so she didn't buy one. She didn't want to buy one from them on principle to be honest, but it was easier to do so, had they had one. She ended up having to bring the party food home, which needed refrigerating. She then had to go out again and buy a cake from Sainsbury's (using time we dearly needed to get things ready for guests due early afternoon) She ended up with a red velvet cake, which was OK but not nearly as nice as as the sponge she ordered would have been!
There was only the verbal apology from the poor woman whose job it was to phone to tell OH about the missing order. No follow up apology email or recompense. She was refunded the cost of the cake and that was it. We would advise no one to order a cake from them and although my party food order did go well, I wouldn't take the risk another time.
I didn't mind at all not having a cake but OH wanted to do this for me as I had organised everything else myself. Imagine if it had been a cake for child's themed party. That not arriving that would have been very upsetting.
