    Road Works

Our local roads are full of potholes, and white lines and other markings are often left to fade into near oblivion. It's a very rural area, I know, but repairs seem to be done on bits here and there, and as fast as one pothole is 'repaired' it opens up again within weeks. Consequently there are lots of temporary traffic lights, and queues forming in one direction while there's no traffic at all in the other direction.

Tomorrow is gets much worse. The two major A roads across the Forest are both facing months of closures. One section of one road will be closed completely for 3 months and the designated diversions will add many miles to people's journeys, in addition to putting huge pressure on the potholed roads.

The other major set of road closures will last until November. This is the major east-west holiday route along the south coast and I can't imagine what the impact will be. There will be different closures at different times so I think it will often be a guessing game.

I'm lucky in that I don't regularly use either of these routes, but I do use the designated diversion routes and I dread to think what the impact will be on the road surfaces and the animals that wander freely in these areas.

I know it's for the 'greater good' and one scheme is to replace a dangerous bridge. Why on earth have we let our roads get into such a terrible mess.

    Sorry for the rant.

The roads out of our village are covered in craters, different roads are shut and diversions are set up. My si has just had to replace a wheel. A crack in the wheel was discovered when he was having new tyres fitted. According to the tyre fitters this is becoming a common problem

Oh good lord Daisy, that all sounds like so much disruption.

I read about all these roads being closed together , it’s happening all over ,
We can’t go anywhere at the moment that hasn’t some form of road works going on .

They came down our back street just before Christmas re doing the white lines but not the pot holes ,
some places it’s not just pot holes there are huge chunks of the road gone and sunken drain holes ,

Makes you wonder if they will ever be repaired

Oma, I thought it was something quite local to us because we have so much traffic being quite heavily populated. Those sunken drains are lethal

I haven't been out on the roads today, but will have to sooner or later!

Nanto - all that traffic being pushed on to rural roads. One route is through our village where there is a busy level crossing, with a collective risk rating of 2 (this is measured from 1-13 with one being the highest). It's really scary!

Oma, Plant - some of the sunken drains and craters are so dangerous. We see the same holes opening up time after time. Repairs don't seem to last 5 minutes.
