One of our 'guilty treats' are chunky bars of Kit Kat. OH, who does most of the shopping, only buys them when they are on offer and checks out carefully what is the best deal of the day. But, it seems, he doesn't check carefully enough!
We (well, I) fancied a treat with our afternoon cuppa. There was one Chunky Kit Kat left in the tin, so I opened a new packet for the second one. Both were from packs of 9 bars, but one bar (the older one) weighed 40 g, and the new one, which was an inch or so shorter, only weighed 32g. So in a pack of 9, the 40 g ones effectively had two more bars (when weighed) than the new packet.
I know manufacturers say they use "shrinkage" instead of putting up prices (and they claim the moral high ground, saying it's better for our health!) but both these packets would have been the best option when OH bought them. He's now going to check the weight of each bar as well as the price per bar. I think shopping could become a much slower job!
Remind me not to ask him to get any Smarties in case he feel compelled to count them.
