I have to praise my credit card!
As some of you may remember, we were victims of the recent Thomas Cook airlines collapse.
My family had all booked our flights with TC. As it was flight only, this is not ATOL protected, as package holidays are.
It is always wise to book with a credit card in case of problems, and we all did.
Insurance companies are the last place to go in this in instance. It's airline first (no chance as it didn't exist any more!) followed by credit card, then insurance as a last resort. They will just refer you back to the other two initially.
Section 75 gives you the right to a refund for anything bought with a credit card which you don't get, if it's not possible for the refund to come from the company you bought it from.
On September 23rd, as well as frantically searching for affordable replacement flights, I downloaded and posted the claim form and flight details to my credit card company, along with countless others over the following days.
I feel that Barclaycard handled the whole situation admirably. Within hours a link to the downloadable form for those affected by Thomas Cook appeared on the BC site with clear instructions on what to include and where to send it to.
Later that day I had a text from them, saying they understood I had bought from Thomas Cook in recent months and if they could help at all they would. I know of no other credit card company that did that.
Within three weeks my money was credited to my card.
I have been following it all closely on the DIBB (Disney holiday forum) throughout and sadly many people with other cards do not have their money yet, nor do they have any idea when they will receive it.
As suggested by others who had done the same, after a couple of weeks I sent a couple of Secure Messages via my account to BC, and within a day or two the money was back.
Having seen how some other card providers are handling this I am very impressed with Barclaycard.
Tesco is the credit card I mainly use, as it gives me Tesco points on everything I buy. Lots of people have had nothing back from Tesco yet, so I am so glad I went with Barclaycard for this purchase!
As I always pay the balance of credit card off each month, this left me with a lot of credit!! This will be handy for buying the theme park tickets for next year.
