    Theatre ticket fiasco

I am going to see A Midsummer Nights Dream soon, at the pop up Rose Theatre which is here over the summer. I am going with 3 friends.
This morning I went to print off our tickets. I began to think I was going mad. 3 seats were on one row and one on another.
I had booked us 4 tickets all together. Well what happened was I booked 3 , immediately realised my mistake, went back and booked the next seat in the row, all 4 seats together. So how could we now be on separate rows??

A little later this morning I had a phone call from the Rose Theatre Box Office, asking if I had an email 2 weeks ago about our seats being changed. No I hadn't. I said I was glad she rang as I was totally puzzled as to why our 4 seats were not together when I know I booked 4 in a row.
It seems that even though it was the same name and credit card on both bookings, no one realised they were the same booking, so a party
So, she spoke to her manager and said they would phone me back. To cut a long boring story short, we are now all together, again, in the same price band and just a couple of rows back. I fear however that they are nearer to the side than our original ones, so not so good a view

Not much we can do now, but it is disappointing as I booked them in good time. The reason for moving us in the first place apparently was that the tickets were sold before the theatre was built, and when it was finished they discovered that about 90 seats did not have good views, so they contacted those people (so they say) and changed their seats. As they hadn't worked out that we were a group of 4, they didn't allocate us 4 together. By the time it came to light, today, there was little choice of seats to put us all together into.
I hope we still have good view and enjoy our night, but I am not happy

Such a disappointment Gem, if you don't have seats with a good view.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

There will be major complaints if the view is bad Nan2. OH thinks we should have some recompense anyway. The tickets were far from cheap.

Gem - how disappointing and annoying. Especially when you'd booked in good time.

I don't understand why as many as 90 seats don't have a good view! It sounds a bit odd. I hope your seats are ok though, and you all enjoy the performance.

Perhaps a quote from the play is appropriate - "Lord, what fools these mortals be!"

        along with

I agree with OH you booked well in advance and not your fault that 90 seats have not so good a view you should at least get some money back .

When we were ‘virgin ‘ theatre goers we foolishly booked two seats that were so high up we may well as been sitting on the roof . It was like watching ants perform.
Now we won’t go to any performance if we can’t get good seats . We tend to choose rows E or F with seats in the middle. We find they are not to close to the front ( so that comedians can’t pick us out to have a banter with ) .
Hope your view doesn’t spoil your enjoyment of the performance

Mimi, I agree. I won't go unless we have really good seats, and we always do. This, being a temporary Eizabethan style theatre is slightly different, but I tried my best!

I'm not a great Shakespeare fan, but Midsummer Night's Dream is my favourite. I hope you enjoy the fun of it whatever happens with the seats, Gem.

I'm determined to Daisy! I feel bad for the others, I wouldn't mind so much if it was just me.

I suppose if it was a real Elizabethan Theatre you'd all be standing! I'm sure the others will be fine and are just grateful to you for organising everything.

You can stand for £13 Daisy

We paid £55 each to sit. The other 3 have been fine about it , and know it is not my fault.

I think the £55 is worth it to sit!! I'm glad the others understand.

Theatre going certainly isn't cheap these days! I've worked out where I like to sit and generally book them. Not in the stalls because there's always someone bigger sitting in front of you!
Our local theatre charges a booking fee, for each seat and then asks for a donation on top!

Enjoy the performance Gem and I hope you've got an unrestricted view of the stage.
Believe you can and you're halfway there.

Gem, I was having a cuppa and a long catch-up chat with my friend M from Yorkshire, today. She's just been up there for 10 days or so, helping her friend to settle into her new house and seeing family. M and her friend went to see Midsummer Night's Dream and thoroughly enjoyed it. But - this is what happened .....

They went to have a look at the pop up theatre one morning, and on the spur of the moment decided to try and get tickets. They were able to get 2 seats for that afternoon's matinee, and M specifically said 'will we be able to see ok?' and she was assured they would.

They sat down, and M couldn't see a thing! So she went back to the box office and told them. They were very apologetic, and miraculously found them two much better seats. They said that seat shouldn't have been sold to them. The performance was excellent and they were more than happy. The following night her brother and sister-in-law also went. They were on the top floor - open to the elements. It must have been the hottest day of the recent heatwave, and it was unbearably hot, and the sun was directly in their eyes the whole time so they couldn't look at the stage even with sunglasses on! They weren't happy at all!

Just thought you'd like to know - and nice to know the production is excellent.
