When skinny is not so skinny!

I have been ordering multi packs of popcorn on the weekly Tesco order, as one of those is roughly the same calories as a biscuit and as filling as a few biscuits. I have been having Proper Corn sweet and salty popcorn. It's very nice and 60 calories a bag.

This week I noticed that Metcalfe's Skinny Popcorn was also on offer at £1 a multipack, the same as the Proper Corn one. I decided to try the 'skinny' one. When it arrived the bags contain 77 calories!
Also it is not as nice as the other one.

This is not the first time I have seen 'Skinny' , 'light' or low calorie items which have the same or more calories than regular ones!

DH has developed a taste for Nescafé cappuccino coffee in individual sachets. We looked at the unsweetened variety and found it contained more sugar than the ordinary one. How does that work?

It really is impossible to sort out these so called low calorie foods. I don't see how you can have a fat free yogurt.

Plant - I agree about the yogurt, and if it's fat free it's full of sugar to give it some taste - I'd rather have the proper stuff!

          Gem - that's very odd.

I sometimes buy low fat versions of items.
Then find they have more salt or sugar in.
            Can't win.

I was told by my Diabetic nurse not to buy low fat or so called sugar free as they are full of unseen sugar substitutes and fats that are worse ,
I now buy greek yoghurt in the large pots and have a small amount with fresh fruit instead ,
Not that I eat a lot of chocolate and even if I do it tends to be dark , again I don't buy Diabetic chocolate its higher in stuff than normal chocolate , its a case of only eating a small amount ,
Gem I love the proper popcorn B isn't keen he likes toffee popcorn only
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Enfrys I also love those coffee's and they are very addictive I used to take 3/4 to work with me in my handbag so I didn't have to buy milk or sugar but reading the packaging is scary when you realise how much sugar they contain so back to green tea again for my sins.

I suppose I'm lucky that I just don't like sweets or anything that is sickly sweet, but I do like plain full-fat yoghurt - Yeo Valley is my favourite!

As some of you know I have been to a Weight awareness course & one of the main things was label reading. I know what you mean about sugar & sugar substitute/fat swaps etc. I've not tried the popcorn but I'll look out for it Gem. Thanks.
