    So Upset

I woke at 3.45am this morning to the sound of gushing water and John shaking me to wake up the water meter connection that is housed in the built in wardrobes had burst and the bedroom /hallway where 3/4ins in water and all the clothes in the wardrobe dripping with water, hubby has COPD and couldn't get down on the floor to turn off the tap so we had to call the Fire Brigade to help us they where great and very helpful,we called our Housing Association people who sent a plumber to help but he couldn't do anything as he is not allowed to touch United Utilities fittings at all so we are now waiting for them to arrive and do repairs,so no heating and no water for a while.
I am so so upset as you all know how much I have enjoyed getting everything just so after waiting so long for the move I am praying my lovely wooden floor in my hall does not lift and dread the thought of when the furniture in the bedroom has to be moved for the carpet to be replaced.

Oh dear Glam I feel for you. How long do you think you will have to wait for the water company? Thinking of you.

Glam, that’s a nightmare! I do hope nothing is spoiled, and I hope you get help with the clear up.

Zizi everyone has been brilliant the guy from the Water Company has just left we first reported it to them at 6am and he was here within the hour, before him the Housing Association Plumber came at 4.45am and told us to ring United Utilities as the HA plumber was not allowed to touch it.
He has taken pictures of all the damage to my lvely bedroom and the damage to the wooden floor in the hall which is lifting already I hope I can get it matched up as it continues into the lounge, all the bottom of my full length curtains are stained with a water mark and all John's boots and shoes are filled with water (which is a diaster its self) he had been waiting for a pair of Rockport boots to be reduced in Janusry sales and bought them last week he is obviously not meant to have them poor man.
The UT man has said the Customer Care Team will ring me between 8am-9am for some kind of estimate and to arrange for people to deliver a dehumidifier etc they seem right on the ball thank goodness.
Well it looks as though the whole room will have to be redecorated sooner than we planned and as you all know that is one of my most favourite pastimes but not for this reason I can assure you.
When the Fire Brigade arrived to help the guys had to walk up the Road as some stupid neighbours down the Road had double parked and left their cars parked so the appliance could not get through its a good job we weren't reporting a fire or we would be in massive trouble.
I am on my 3rd coffee and my lovely has popped in a small brandy for medicinal purposes only. Feeling slightly better as I know worse things happen.

              Oh Glamm what a nightmare
You can claim on your insurance but that's not the point is it ,
Can a neighbour put Johns new boots in a airing cupboard for you to dry out ?

You will have to lift them boards to get under dried nothing else you can do or they might start to smell ,
Wish we all lived nearer we would come down on mass and help , A big Brandy would be better xxxxx

Awww Glam I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you get some help with all this upset. Re your wooden floor. Years ago my mum dropped the hot iron on my carpet. It was a carpet which ran through both rooms. The insurance paid for replacement carpet for both rooms. It is worth checking what your insurance will cover.

I do hope you will get help from your family/friends.

How frightening to wake up to the sound of water running. A real shame about your OH's boots, you don't have to tell them they were in the sale. Keep us posted how things are going, thoughts are with you.

Shemadee You are certainly right about getting good service I am shocked at how quickly everyone has responded,United Utilities sent out the loss adjuster with a team of men to move the carpet & the wooden floor and removed the furniture which was damaged,a chest of drawers and mans tall boy 4 picture frames from under the bed (unbeknown to me) and a collection of my leather bags which where in the bottom drawer all soaked through and spoilt.
Two of the bags where my ultimate favourites one a classic radley shoulder/day bag and one an autograph cream leather -gutted to loose them.
We now have the dryers on for a week to make sure no damp then they will send there people with flooring choices and arrange fitting I have decided to refit the bedroom with off white wood and pay the difference myself .
I am so tired now so am off to put my feet up for an hour or two I go to SW tonight and don't want to fall asleep in the queue to be weighed.

Oh, Glamm, what an awful thing to happen. I know there are 'worse' things, but you and your OH have invested your dreams in your new bungalow, to say nothing of things you love which you may not be able to replace exactly. Thank goodness all the services acted so quickly, but I would certainly be complaining about the double parked car! I hope the fire service does, too. Will your OH be ok in the house while it's drying out - I was thinking about COPD. Sending very big hugs. xxx
