That could have been really nasty, glad no-one was hurt.

I seem to remember someone - Pearl5? - her oven door shattering, but I think it was decided it was because she'd put a damp tea towel on it to dry and the door was warm. But for it to happen when the glass is cold seems very dangerous.

I wish they didn't make glass oven doors! We have one, it came with the house. I fear it smashing and hurting the cats

Mind you, not much danger if cleaning it is what causes it

My oven has a door with a glass panel not a separate glass door, I presume that will not break into pieces

This one is too, its the inner panel we took out to clean as we have done almost every week with no problem ,

Reading about it online and its not a one off it happens to lots of people ,
One lady came home from holiday to find her kitchen littered with glass hers had exploded while the house was empty .

New glass arrived today haven't opened it yet fingers crossed its ok

I have never taken mine out. Just checked I have an inner and an outer glass panel. I hardly ever use my oven as I have a microwave/oven. When it needs cleaning I have it cleaned by a man and he does the microwave and my filter cleaning as well.

Hope you don't have a problem with this oven glass door Oma.

Oma this shouldn't happen like you say seems to be more common than you would think, it was our oven door that exploded \Daisy, I cannot remember now if I was using it, but remember the huge bang, glass even stuck in the ceiling, you would think you had all the glass then even days later there were little splinters shining on the tiles, , we got our from Wickes but was out of its guarantee, I don't think mine would have been down to cleaning it though Oma... well hoping this one is ok for you and glad no one was hurt.....

I don't clean our oven door anywhere like as often as you do, Oma, but I always lie it on a towel on the work surface - more to protect the work surface than anything else - but I don't think I'll be doing it too often after reading these horror stories!
