It doesn't take much to make me happy.

For ages and ages I've been quietly grumbling about our washing baskets - different sizes and in different stages of disintegration, and none of them a sensible shape to fold dried clothes into.

I've looked at getting new ones, but somehow there's always something wrong - or they're a silly price for what they are.

Yesterday we went to Matalan for something else and I spotted them - the perfect washbaskets. Oblong, white, not too big and not too small, and only £5 each. I bought 4 - I sort the washing into one pile each of whites, lights/brights, darks and towels. Yippee - a basket for each pile, and when not in use they stacked neatly on top of the dryer.

I got them home and then realised each basket had two sticky labels. I always end up with half torn off labels because they always stick too much. But, another yippee! every single label came off clean and I only broke one nail in the process.

    I'm such a happy bunny.

Sticky labels can be removed with a can of Dissove It. You can get it from the supermarket. You give the can a good shake and spray the wretched label, leave it five minutes and gently scrape the offending article to loosen it and then wash it off. Does good for chewing gum as well which is one of the banes of my life. When I get off the tube I often have a horrid glob of chewing gum on my bottom!

Sticky labels can be removed using WD40.

Very useful information Daisy. I need a new laundry basket as the one I have is years old and falling to bits. I only need one! I have three large bags on wall hooks for dirty laundry! OH still stand with a pair of black socks and asks which bag it goes in!

Zizi, Nanto, Qwerty and Oma - many thanks for the de-labelling tips. OH has WD40 hidden somewhere in the garage, but I know if I try to find it he'll give me 10 reasons why I shouldn't be messing with such potent stuff! Zizi's Dissolve It sounds a good idea though - OH would never realise what it is!

Qwerty - if I have to sort the piles of washing onto the bathroom floor I have to try and carry them downstairs without dropping anything, and if I take the whole laundry basket down and sort them on the utility room floor we can't get out of the door, OH throws things like dog towels onto the pile, or Eva tried to bury toys in whichever pile is the most noisome! At least if I divide it all up in the bathroom straight into baskets I can then just take them down and chuck the stuff into the machine without having to inspect it all at close quarters.

Living in a bungalow means I don't have far to deposit the contents of the laundry basket. I sort it on the floor of the utility as I don't have a husband or a dog, easy Peary. Love WD40 too but not for chewing gum on my bottom

You're right. It is the small things in life that make us happy. Mine is to see a tiny, frail plant growing between a crack in the pavement.
