    Happy signs of Spring

I know it's felt like a long wet, cold winter for most of us, but there are signs of Spring around and in addition to the usual faithfuls sprouting and flowering I've had two lovely surprises.

Yesterday, I was fishing leaves out of the pond and found newts in there. We only made the pond last summer, so this is our first spring and I was really hoping for newts and frog spawn. Fifty per cent success, and there's still time for the frogs.

This morning I checked on some spring bulbs sheltering in their pots under a bench, and was surprised to find one pot bursting with colour. Iris Reticulata. I'd forgotten about them, and they are always in flower very early. They're now out in the garden giving a lovely splash of bright yellow and blue.

    How lovely Daisy,
A splash of colour and newts,
Is it a bit early for frog spawn? I thought it was about march but we live in a colder part of the country so ours may be later than your end.

It's so nice to see the signs of Spring Daisy.

Lizzie and WG, lovely spring flower photos.

We have very few snowdrops in our garden, but there are lots to be seen out and about.

The daffodils have begun to open in our front garden. In fact I brought two in the other day as I accidentally reversed over them!

Oma, yes, I think it's a bit early for frogspawn, even down here. Later this month for us I should think.

Lizzie, How lovely to see daffodils flowering in the middle of busy traffic.

Wee Granny, that is so beautiful. Snowdrops are one of my special loves.

Gem, I thought our snowdrops hadn't done very well last week, but now there are lots more. Don't give up hope on yours. I know you love daffodils, and it's great to have some of your own daffs in the house. xx

Our snowdrops are in full bloom. Crocus are up,but need some sun to open their flowers.
              All the daffodils have buds.
              Certainly signs of spring.

              Daisy,your flowers sound lovely.

Grey and gloomy today, but we had a brief moment yesterday when the sun shone and the catkins waved in the breeze.

Sum1, catkins always make me smile. I love how they dance about in the breeze, but seem untroubled by howling gales.

Sum1 - I walked past a patch of crocus this afternoon, and even in the pouring rain the colours were beautiful. I promised myself I'd plant some for next Spring.
